Lsu Tigers Men’s Basketball Tickets And Seating Chart

It’s been a great new experience for the men’s basketball team at LSU. Although the entire facility will not be complete until sometime in 2010, the LSU Tigers were excited to practice in their own brand new facility recently. When the construction is complete, there will be a new media room, new team dressing room, equipment facilities, training facilities and two practice gyms; the latter of which has already been finished and made available to the players recently. Although the LSU Tigers were not the first to use the new facilities (the women’s basketball team used them the previous weekend), they made good use of the 11,324 square foot gym which is an exact replica of the Maravich Center competition court.

Fans, coaches, staff and team members are optimistic that the new gyms will allow the team to create more focus and concentration on their game skills and build a longer repertoire of wins. Thus far, the LSU Tigers have won games against UL-Monroe, Indiana State, Western Kentucky and UL-Lafayette. Perhaps there’s no connection whatsoever, but all of the winning games have been played at the Maravich Center. By contrast, the two away games in the season tip-off against Connecticut and Arizona State were losses for the LSU Tigers. Connecticut beat the Tigers 81-55 and Arizona State dusted the LSU Tigers 71-52.

With plenty of games ahead in the 2009-2010 season and quite a few of the games scheduled at home, there are plenty of opportunities for the LSU Tigers to make this their best season ever. Once finals are complete, the LSU Tigers will return to the court for December games against Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls and Rice. The start of the Cougar Hardwood Classic marks the rest of the games in December for the LSU Tigers with games against Washington State and Xavier (Ohio).

Recognized officially as the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it takes its name from Peter Press Maravich (23), all-century team member whose list of accomplishments for the LSU Tigers stretches a mile long but whose life ended suddenly in 1988. Affectionately referred to by most as simply Maravich Center, this two-level facility has been the home to many great games played by the LSU Tigers men’s basketball team.

The upper level has sections 304 through 337 designated as the student section. Sections 202, 203, 102, 103 and part of 104 are also set aside for students. So, when making your seating selections, be sure to keep this in mind. Ample seating throughout the rest of the entire venue offer excellent sites from every seat. Maravich Center is a spacious venue that takes every seat to the game for an experience watching the LSU Tigers heat up the court. If you haven’t take advantage of the opportunity to experience the LSU Tigers in motion, you owe it to yourself to get tickets to some of these great games held at Maravich Center.

As the LSU Tigers move into the season, there are 13 games scheduled at the Maravich Center and whether you want to attend all of these games or just a chosen one or two, there’s no question that great seats are still available to see the LSU Tigers take on opponents like Utah, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Georgia and McNeese State.

Michigan State Basketball Star Arrested For Drunk Driving

Being pulled over for a routine traffic stop is a frustrating experience for any motorist to go through. If the police officer at the scene believes that you are driving while intoxicated, your problems instantly become bigger. This is especially true for those who are in the public spotlight, such as athletes on popular college teams across the state. It is also likely that the basketball player will face additional charges, as he is not the legal drinking age–Lucius turned 21 years old after his drunk driving arrest. However, a DUI under 21 may be the least of his problems–according to head coach Tom Izzo, the organization has been notified of Lucius’ arrest and is investigating the matter internally. “We’re aware that a ticket was issued, and we are still gathering information,” Izzo commented during a press conference regarding the incident.

While Lucius will certainly face legal consequences for both underage drinking and driving while intoxicated, it is unknown whether he will also face punishments imposed by Michigan State University and the athletic department. However, his dismissal from the team is possible, as former guard Chris Allen was dismissed from the team just for failing to meet Izzo’s obligations and requirements.

Depaul Agreed With Clemson Men’s Basketball Coach Oliver Purnell

INDIANAPOLIS — DePaul agreed with Clemson men’s basketball coach Oliver Purnell late Monday on a seven-year contract that will pay Purnell well beyond the .6 million salary he was making with the Tigers.

Purnell will be introduced at a 2:30 p.m. ET news conference Tuesday in Chicago, DePaul spokesperson Greg Greenwell confirmed.

“DePaul presents a great opportunity,” Purnell told ESPN.com Tuesday morning.

The stunning hire — culminated shortly after the Duke-Butler NCAA national championship game — salvaged a search for a new coach that lasted nearly three months.

The Chicago Tribune and FoxSports.com Web sites, both citing sources, first broke the story in the early morning hours Tuesday.

“It’s a super job,” Purnell said. “They are very, very committed to restoring a tradition and make DePaul Chicago’s team.”

Purnell wasn’t on any reported DePaul prospective hire lists throughout the winter. He said Tuesday he was contacted four or five days ago. DePaul had made overtures all over the country and few seemed to know where Blue Demons were headed.

DePaul interviewed Minnesota Timberwolves assistant and former New Mexico State and Sacramento Kings coach Reggie Theus late last week for the job.

Jerry Wainwright, who had two years left on his contract, was fired as coach on Jan. 11, with the Blue Demons at 7-8 overall, 0-3 in the Big East.

DePaul finished the season 8-23 overall and dead-last in the Big East at 1-17 under interim coach Tracy Webster.

DePaul went winless in the Big East in 2008-09 and finished 9-24 overall that season.

Meanwhile, Purnell took Clemson to the 2010 NCAA tournament with a 21-10 record (the Tigers lost to Missouri in the first round 86-78). Clemson was 9-7 in the ACC.

Purnell reached the NCAA tournament with the Tigers in three straight seasons, losing in the first round in each of those appearances. He was 138-90 in seven seasons at Clemson, but 50-62 in the ACC.

Prior to Clemson, Purnell resurrected Dayton in a nine-year run that ended with a 24-6 record and an NCAA appearance. He made two NCAA tournament appearances at Dayton.

He also coached at Old Dominion for three years (one NCAA appearance) and three seasons at Radford. Purnell has never won an NCAA game.

Purnell said the move was much more about the challenge at DePaul and had nothing negative to say about Clemson.

“I hope they feel we left the program in great shape,” Purnell said. “I feel that way.”

DePaul athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto made it clear a few weeks ago that the school was ready to make a big splash, saying the next coach could be among the highest paid in a conference that Rick Pitino, Jim Boeheim, Bob Huggins and Jim Calhoun call home. She went with Purnell after interviewing former NBA star and Sacramento Kings coach Reggie Theus. Pittsburgh’s Jamie Dixon, UCLA’s Ben Howland and Chicago native Isiah Thomas also surfaced in reports.

Purnell’s decision stunned the Tigers, who went 21-11 this season. He signed a two-year extension with Clemson in June and was making more than .3 million a year, but his buyout was only 0,000.

In a statement, Clemson athletic director Dr. Terry Don Phillips said Purnell “is one of the most respected coaches in college basketball and one of the most respected people on this campus and we hate to see him leave.”

He joins a long line of Tigers coaches who have left what appeared to be a program on the rise for a challenge in a different league. Bill Foster, who led Clemson to the Elite Eight in 1980, left in 1984 to restart the basketball program at Miami. Cliff Ellis, the Tigers winningest coach, left in 1994 to go to Auburn, and Rick Barnes left for Texas in 1998 after leading Clemson to three straight NCAA tournaments.

DePaul has struggled in the 16-team Big East. “On paper, it looks very tough,” Purnell said. “But once I evaluated this I saw that this was like a lot of the jobs I’ve had before Clemson. They were tough jobs as well.”

DePaul presents a number of challenges. The Blue Demons are less talented than the rest of the Big East. They also have facility issues — including having to play off-campus near O’Hare International Airport at the Allstate Arena — as well as a relatively apathetic fan base in Chicago, which tends to be a town that follows its professional teams.

Clemson, meanwhile, is consistently one of the best and rowdiest home courts in the ACC.

Clemson loses seniors all-ACC forward Trevor Booker and wing David Potter but was expected to returned the rest of its team that reached the NCAA. Most experts figured the Tigers to challenge for an upper-division spot in the ACC.

Purnell’s departure means there are now two coaching openings in the ACC. Boston College is looking to replace Al Skinner, who parted ways with the program last week. Cornell coach Steve Donahue is reportedly talking with school administrators about taking over the Eagles’ program.

Dwayne Wade- Miami Heat; D-Wade of the marketing NBA creatives, is a slashy, creative, shooting guard witha championship ring to go with the exceptional performance he put on during the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. Dwayne Wade’s game is versatile and should flourish during Olympic style basketball play. Dwayne Wade played collegiately at Marquette University (NCAA). 
Kobe Bryant- Los Angeles Lakers; Kobe Bryant… well, Kobe Bryant, need I say more. An 81 point scoring outburst and a phenominal 2007-08 season with the Los Angeles Lakers which culminated in a Western Conference Championship. Kobe will be a special basketball treat for all Olympic basketball fans. Kobe entered the NBA right out of high-school, similiar to the legendary Moses Malone (“4, 4, 4″) and Darryl Dawkins “Chocolate Thunder!”  Kobe is a product of Philly.
LeBron James- Cleveland Cavaliers; the most electrifying dunker of modern NBA basketball  and arguably all-time. LeBron’s strong game of dunk-you-very-much and power has took the National Basketball Association by storm! LeBron is only a blink away from establishing himself as the epitome of NBA shooting guards with strength and power to go along with his basketball intelligence which is unmatched! LeBron James came into the NBA, right after high-school and was regarded highly as everyone’s McDonald’s Basketball All-American, from Ohio.
Carlos Boozer- Utah Jazz; the former Duke University Blue Devil is a fierce inside presence and has a soft touch, he’ll be an asset teamming up with Deron Williams, as they’re teammates with the Western Conference Utah Jazz in the NBA.

Adolf Rupp- the former NCAA basketball coach of the University of Kentucky, Adolf Rupp was a graduate of Kansas University (Wilt Chamberlain’s Alma Mater). Coach Rupp for whom the University of Kentucky’s Rupp Arena is named, propelled the University of Kentucky to national prominence, during the 1930′s through the 1971-72 seasons (41 seasons). Of collegiate basketball coaches with more than 500 wins, Coach Adolf Rupp had over an 82% winning percentage- the highest winning percentage in college basketball history. Coach Bobby Dye is an eccentric addition to my list of the greatest NCAA basketball coaches ever, because his style of ball control and hard-nosed defense was a tactical basketball approach that could be used to compete against any team in college basketball. Coach Bobby Dye had successful NCAA coaching stints at Cal State-Fullerton and Boise State University (Alma Mater of former NBA/ New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets Guard- Chris Childs, former Big Sky Player of the Year- Arnell Jones and International basketball star- Tanoka Beard, and Wilson Foster).
Lute Olson- University of Arizona Wildcats, Head Basketball Coach, Lute Olson has appeared in 4 Final Fours and won the NCAA basketball national championship in 1997 with current NBA guard- Mike Bibby leading the way. Lute Olson has dominated PAC-10 play, competing against the likes of UCLA, USC, Oregon, Stanford, Cal-Berkley, Washington, Arizona State, Oregon State, and Washington State. Lute Olson has also been blessed with an array of players of McDonald’s All-American status. I remember vividly ‘Coach P’ stating to me ‘on the line,’ over and over again, so many times that I soon understood how important the game was. The irony is that I didn’t walk out of practice, I ran every sprint he demanded of me and I returned to practice the next day…the rest is history! Coach Was Color-blind, He Only Wanted to Know if you Could Play Basketball

Basketball Coach Don Haskins does not have to wait for his legend to happen. He is a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Few today would remember Don Haskins. He was the coach at Texas Western in 1966 when his 27-1 team played Adolph Rupp’s 27-1 University of Kentucky Wildcats for the NCAA title.

Nothing too unusual about that, except that Haskins would become the first coach in NCAA history to start an all-African American lineup when the Miners squared off against Rupp’s all-white Kentucky team that featured two players who would become well-known in the NBA pro league: Pat Riley and Louie Dampier.

Remember these names: Bobby Joe Hill, David Lattin, Orsten Artis, Willie Worsley and Harry Flournoy during February, Black History Month. They were the starting lineup for Texas Western when the Miners won the NCAA championship against an all-white Kentucky team, 72-65.

I would graduate from Michigan State University two months after Texas Western won the title, and would not be aware of just how historic this event was. My high school and college cross-country and track teams were integrated. Kentucky would not even offer African Americans basketball scholarships, and there were many other colleges and universities which excluded African American players in 1966.

There was a lot of hatred in the South at that time. Heck, there was a lot hatred everywhere, but not in Don Haskins’ will to win for Texas Western, known today as UTEP, the University of Texas at El Paso. Haskins was color-blind and simply put the best players on the floor to compete.

Haskins recruited the best players, nothing else mattered. Not even the lousy treatment and death threats both Haskins and his players received from die-hard, ignorant, bigoted Texas Western boosters and donors. They sing a different tune in Texas today, especially at the University of Texas.

Glory Road in 2006 retold the story of Don Haskins and Texas Western. Josh Lucas played the role of Don Haskins, Derek Luke played Bobby Joe Hill and John Voight played Adolph Rupp.

Glory Road is not one of the best movies ever made, but the story of Texas Western is on par with other great victories in sports history, including the 1980 U. S. Hockey team winning the Gold Medal in the Olympics.

Contrary to the movie version, the title game was not as big an upset as was depicted. Texas Western had an excellent team, as evidenced by its No. 3 ranking the final polls that year. Haskins was not the first coach to play African Americans, Texas Western had African American players on its roster before Haskins arrived.

Haskins was the first to start an all-African American lineup in the NCAA title game, and it is also true that Texas Western was the first college in a Southern state to integrate its athletic teams. Good for Texas Western.

Glory Road had a good message of hope for African Americans. At least one coach had the backbone to play the best. Do not think for a moment that this was Don Haskins’ one moment of glory, and that he was courageous but not an excellent basketball coach.

Since Glory Road was not as much about Don Haskins as some very talented, very tolerant and very brave Texas Western players, let it be known that Don Haskins:

1) Played three years at Oklahoma A&M under Hall of Fame coach Hank Iba and was Team Captain.

2) Was tied for 4th place among the NCAA’s most winning active coaches when he retired with 719 wins and 353 losses.

3) Had 33 winning seasons at UTEP in 38 years of coaching.

4) Led UTEP to no less than 17 20-win-seasons, an NCAA title in 1966, 7 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championships, 4 WAC tournament titles, and 21 postseason trips (14 to the NCAA playoffs and 7 NIT-National Invitational Tournament-appearances).

5) Changed college basketball forever by starting an all-African American team against an all-white Kentucky team in the NCAA tournament and winning the title.

6) Coached Hall of Famer Nate “Tiny” Archibald, NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway, and Antonio Davis, and mentored future coaches Nolan Richardson and Tim Floyd.

Glory Road is a film for every basketball enthusiast. It has a great message and represents a great moment in the evolution of basketball as we know and enjoy it today.

Ncaa Basketball- Marquette Defeats St. John In The Second Day Of The Bet

Coming from a victory against the University of Connecticut on the first day of the Big East Tournament Bracket, the University of St. John left everyone speechless in its game against Marquette on Wednesday. St. John was defeated 57-55 in a game that it was winning until the very last minutes.

St. John proved – in most of the second day – that it was a very strong team, setting a game rhythm that evidenced the players’ skill. But the team had a rough start. The first half was a little messy, giving Marquette enough space to take advantage of St. John’s mistakes.

The first half ended with Marquette ahead 27-17, demonstrating the Storm’s lack of concentration. But as the second half started, things slipped into place for St. John players, who began to set the rhythm they needed and whose offense began to work together as a team.

Marquette has been having one of its best seasons ever. The team has an overall record of 20-10 and a Big East record of 11 wins and 7 losses. Coming in as the fifth seed, Marquette has the skills and talents needed in the second round of the Big East Tournament bracket.

Marquette games have a tendency to be full of incredible tension, as the team has won 12 of its last 19 conference games by 3 points or less; 6 of the last 7 have been in the second round of the Big East Tournament.

The last time Marquette faced St. John, in New York, the team won in overtime 63-61 with a Jimmy Buttler shot in the last minute. It was the Golden Eagles’ 11th straight win over St. John.

Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams said he was very pleased with the result of the most recent game, and particularly, the way his players were working together. Next they will have to focus on a game against Villanova, on Thursday. The fourth-seeded Villanova has defeated Marquette in their last two matches, but the Golden Eagles still have hopes of winning the game and making a second straight semifinal appearance.

It has not been easy for St. John’s head coach, Norm Roberts, to face being ousted in the quarterfinals again for the sixth straight year. Rumors circulate that the defeat against Marquette may yet cost him his job. As he walked to the press conference, his face said everything.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well in the first half, but we came back,” Roberts said. “We just talked about make the extra pass, make one more pass— they do a great job of rotating in the first half and making the ball stick in our hands a little bit. I thought the guys did a good job of making the extra pass in the second half.”

Roberts has been deeply criticized for not signing some of basketball’s best prospects. He simply hasn’t won enough games.

For now he is waiting for the worse, as many say that it’s about time for St. John to look for a fresh new start and hire a new head coach.

Big Ten Basketball Tickets – Purdue Falls, Ohio State Surges Late In The Season

The Purdue University Boilermakers lost one crucial asset to its basketball team’s powerful tripod, and the results have been devastating. Purdue’s Robbie Hummel tore his ACL in the team’s Feb. 24 game against the Minnesota Gophers, and his loss knocks Purdue off its throne, now pitting three Big Ten teams against each other for first place going into the Big Ten Tournament.

Purdue had been sitting pretty at No. 3 in the national polls and No. 1 in Big Ten standings going into the end of February, but Hummel’s absence proved detrimental in the Boilermakers’ Feb. 28 matchup against Michigan State. Despite first-half surges by JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore, Purdue fell to the power of Kalin Lucas and Co., losing steam as the Spartans rolled to a hard-fought 53-44 win over Matt Painter’s Boilermakers.

After Purdue’s loss to Michigan State, the Boilermakers fell to No. 6 in the national polls, also evening the playing field in the Big Ten. Now 12-4 (as of March 1), the Ohio State Buckeyes have surged to No. 1 in the conference with a 13-4 record. Michigan State is also 12-4 going into the month of March, signifying one intense battle sure to ensue in the Midwest as all three teams fight for the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes snuck into first place while all the attention was still on Purdue, and a win over Penn State on Feb. 24 helped rocket Ohio State into the top of the Big Ten. Should the Buckeyes win their March 2 melee against the Illinois Fighting Illini, they will secure the top spot of the regular season in the conference, leaving a new team as the crew to beat in the tourney.

OSU’s Evan Turner is in the running for national player of the year, and his monstrous averages of 19.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5 assists per game might just be enough for the Buckeyes to overshadow any expectations previously set for Purdue this season. Turner’s Buckeyes have the No. 7 national seed going into the first week of March, nipping at the heels of Purdue’s No. 6 standing and going for a convincing run into the big dance.

Of course, Michigan State can’t be counted out, either. The Spartans posted a solid win against Purdue even despite the absence of Robbie Hummel, with Kalin Lucas, Raymar Morgan and Draymond Green combining to trump the Boilermakers on their home court on Feb. 28. The Purdue-Michigan State game was one of the most physical of the year for both teams, and although the Boilers put up a good fight, they were ultimately no match for the Spartans.

Now that the Big Ten is in a three-way brawl for the conference championship title, anything can happen going into the NCAA Tournament. Basketball fans are running to get Big Ten basketball tickets from StubHub for conference battles throughout the rest of the season, as the ride going into the big dance is sure to be only one thing: unpredictable.
