I have worked as a nursing assistant for 1.5 now i would resembling to get my CNA. What do i have to do to come by this in Pennsylvania. and is there a question paper i can take for it i think ive be trained well working in a hospital and adjectives. plus ive taken some nursing classes. HELP!

Anyone next to Medical Exp?
I have a fractured 5th metatarsal on my left foot also call a Jone’s Fracture, I got the injury playing soccer in mid July and be told to not put any pressure on the foot and wear crutches. Last Wed was my 6 week checkup, and the doctor said I would have to skulk another 6 weeks to maybe even start putting pressure on it again, this is my senior season for high college soccer and missing the season is not something I wanted to do, but that’s what looks like is gonna arise, anyone that is a doctor or nurse is this the usually time a Jones Fracture takes to make well or is there something I can do to cut down the amount time I will be hurt?

(NaturalNews) New research published in the August issue of the journal Archives of Dermatology has found that a popular acne drug appears to increase cholesterol and triglyceride levels in users more than previously thought.

A team of researchers from the University of California San Francisco found that isotretinoin — sold as Roche AG’s Accutane and also as a generic drug — raised triglyceride fat levels in 44 percent of patients with previously normal levels, and also increased total cholesterol in 31 percent of users. According to the drug’s label, previous trials had shown Accutane to raise triglycerides in 25 percent of patients, and increase cholesterol in just 7 percent of users.

The research team examined the medical records of 13,772 isotretinoin users in California between 1995 and 2002. The median age of users was 19, and the median length of treatment was 21 weeks.

“The incidence of abnormally high serum lipid levels during isotretinoin treatment may be greater than previously estimated,” the researchers wrote.

Higher triglyceride and cholesterol levels can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, as well as cause long-term health problems. Isotretinoin has also been linked to birth defects, and pregnant women are screened out before the drug is prescribed.

“This is yet another example of an unintended, but clearly harmful, side effect of a popular drug,” explained Mike Adams, consumer health advocate. “The truth is that all drugs have unintended side effects, largely because they are incapable of targeting specific tissues and tend to run rampant throughout the entire body,” he added.

Roche spokesperson Shelley Rosenstock recommends that doctors “consider the risk/benefit for patients for whom elevated lipid levels present a high risk,” and that those who prescribe the drug have already been asked to monitor fat levels in patients before and during treatment.

“The sad truth is that most doctors will probably prescribe statin drugs to treat the side effect caused by isotretinoin,” said Adams, “initiating an endless chain of treating the side effects of one drug with another drug that causes yet more side effects.”

Universal Health Care? NO!

Universal Health Care may not be the answer to our problems. Other countries, Canada and Britain, being the most obvious, have not done well with universal health care.

Let’s look at what is wrong with the current solution.

* Pre-existing conditions can make health insurance unavailable or unaffordable.
* Forty-Five million people are not covered by a plan. (That number is not true, but we will use it for now.)
* People with health issues must pay more to get coverage.
*Preventive medicine is not practiced like it should be.
*Duplicated, inaccurate medical records are inefficiently handled because they are not electronic. Too many mistakes, excessive tests, and misdiagnosis are being made as a result of poor quality data.
* People view health care as a health coverage plan instead of a catastrophic insurance plan
* Third-party pay system. When you go to the hospital for an operation, you don’t check the bill you receive when you check out. Why? You don’t care. It’s not your money. An insurance company, a third-party, has paid the bill for you.

If I were the person in charge, here’s what I would suggest:

If you opt-in to an insurance plan within a prescribed period of time, then pre-existing conditions would not be considered. For example, when you turn twenty-one, you need to purchase your own health plan. We would use attained age to determine the premium quote. There is no question that older people use more health services than younger, healthier people.)
* We can argue about how many people are uninsured, but whatever that number is, everyone has to have coverage. A friend’s blog shows that the real number is closer to 11,260,150 only 3.75% of the population of the US, not the near 16% according to the political left.
* All children up to the age of twenty-one would be covered by plan that would cost about per month per child. (Illegal aliens would be required to purchase their own insurance coverage at the same rates as citizens of the US.)
* H S A (health savings account type plans, also called high deductible health plans,) would be the only type of plans available. Catastrophic plans should address preventive medicine. The free annual physical examination would be provided. This extent and depth of the physical exam would be determined by the doctor. I would suggest that the HSA type plans have a deductible in the range of ,000 for an individual and ,000 for a family. Certainly, these can be different numbers, but they need to be high deductibles. After the deductible is met, the insurance company would cover 100% of the costs. All covered expenses go toward meeting the deductible ? including medications.
* If you compare what people want in their health plans to what they get with their auto insurance, you will see the difference. Your auto insurance doesn’t have, oil changes, tire changes, car washes and other related items. Auto insurance simply helps you pay for a catastrophic event – a car wreck. Health plans should be catastrophic in nature, but after the deductible is met, then the company would pay 100%.
* All people, whether they are dealing with health issues or not, will pay the same premium.
* All medical records would be required to be electronic. There would be a medical database that all doctors and hospitals would be able to access that contains your health conditions, health history, medications taken and other related medical data.
* Get rid of third-party payer system.

What will happen if the government plan is adopted?

“The new government health plan that many politicians support would compete with private plans. The government would set benefits, premiums, commissions and payment rates.

The Lewin Group estimates more than 118 million people would shift to the government plan almost overnight, resulting in more than 2 out of every 3 Americans in a government plan. The reason for this dramatic shift is that the government would continue to use Medicare payment rates, so premiums would likely be 30 percent less expensive than current plans.

With more Americans under a government plan, health care system costs would shift from the government program to private plans. As a result, private premiums would skyrocket, making private health insurance unaffordable for most. Clearly the more affordable government plan could have devastating effects on private individual and group insurance plans.” Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina.

If you wonder if this will happen to the United States, just consider how well the government runs the USPS. The United States Postal Service is not even close to being as efficient as FedEx, UPS or any of the private firms. They are continually raising the cost of sending letters and packages around the world.

Jan-Ã…ke Gustafsson was the first big-name scientist recruited by the University of Houston for its health initiative, but if things go according to plan, the Swedish researcher soon will be joined by other research rock stars.

UH President Renu Khator announced last year that health would be one of her “big rocks,” the broad areas on which she expects the university to build its reputation.

Already, health-related studies account for more than half of the university’s research grants — million for the 2009 fiscal year — out of a total of 0 million. That includes not only basic science and biomedical engineering, but such areas as health law and health policy.

After decades of isolated efforts, UH has grown serious about becoming a player in Houston’s health care and research scene. New administrators have been added, including Pharmacy Dean Lamar Pritchard and Kathryn Peek, who was hired to run the health initiative, and recruiting for faculty is under way.

Texas Medical Center ties

UH officially became a member of the Texas Medical Center earlier this year, the second school to be granted the status, although several have membership for one program. Rice University was the first.

Richard Wainerdi, the Medical Center’s chief executive, said UH already is involved in dozens of collaborations with members, including one involving Baylor College of Medicine and Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions, which allows students to earn an undergraduate degree at UH and a medical degree at Baylor.

But official membership will streamline the process, Wainerdi said. “I think what we’re seeing is a new kind of working together,” he said. Khator, who is also chancellor of the UH system, said her “big rocks” came from suggestions during her first 100 days on the job. The top research-related suggestions were health, energy and the arts, reflecting the strengths of the city itself.

“With the largest medical facility in the world, it really makes sense for us to have health as a big rock,” Khator said.

Peek was hired to run the initiative last summer, recruited from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where she was director of education programs.

UH has long been a training ground for institutions in the Medical Center — providing medical students, researchers, technicians, accountants and administrators. The opening of a nursing school at UH-Victoria, with many classes offered in Sugar Land, increased the ties.

Some of the pharmacy school’s faculty and staff have been located in the Medical Center for years, while other parts of the program are on the main campus.

Gustafsson was recruited last winter with the help of a .5 million grant from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and The Methodist Hospital, which joined with UH to create the Center for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling.

But Khator said official medical center membership will make that kind of connection easier — from recruiting to submitting joint research proposals and doing the actual work.

Building a work force

UH also will expand its degree programs to better meet the work force needs.

“We know health care reform, in whatever direction it goes, is going to expand the number of people with health insurance,” Peek said. That means more health care providers will be needed, as well as more health care economists, lawyers and other related specialties, she said.

One thing won’t happen, according to Peek: UH will not open its own medical school. The school talked with Weill Cornell Medical School, part of Cornell University in Ithica, N.Y., about opening a medical school in 2007.

Certification For Health Care When Becoming A Pharmacist

The man or woman that you see behind the counter in the pharmacy that is available to answer all of your questions is a certified pharmacist. They must know how to measure and mix medications, and they must be able to answer a myriad of different questions about those medications. Here are the things a pharmacist must do for certification for health care.

Just like in most professions, it is best to begin planning and preparing to become a pharmacist while you are still in high school. You will need to take a variety of science and mathematics courses. Learn to write well and express yourself on the written page, and learn all you can about computers. Volunteer to work in a nursing home, pharmacy or hospital during your high school years.

There are three ways that you start your pharmacist career. Most students go to an accredited college and earn a four year degree before going on to pharmacy school. Others opt to go straight from high school into a pharmacy program known as “0-6″. The other option is to go into an accelerated program.

Whichever program you choose should meet these qualifications. The school should be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, they should have top of the line computers, science courses and science laboratories and they should be a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

Most pharmacy schools require two years of specific pre-entry courses to be completed before a student may be considered for acceptance. There are a large majority of students who have at least three years of course work on the undergraduate level and a good number finish a four year degree before applying for pharmacy school.

Once the student finishes the two years of required class work, he will need to take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test. Once he has the test results, he must fill out the application form and gather the materials that are required by the pharmacy school. Some schools require an interview with potential students before acceptance.

The PharmD degree is another 4 years of study resulting in a Doctorate degree in Pharmacy. The total number of years of study for this degree is 6. Pharmacists are, also, required to complete a certain number of hours of experience working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

When the student has finished his degree, he will need to take a variety of tests in order to apply for licensure or certification. Each state is different in what they require. These tests will examine the student’s knowledge of pharmaceutical subjects as well as the pharmaceutical laws of the state where he will be licensed.

The outlook for jobs for pharmacists is above average through 2018. One of the main reasons for this growth is the growing number of older people within the United States who require medications of some kind. The median annual wage for pharmacists is 6,410. Twenty-two percent of pharmacists nationwide make over 0,000 annually.

When it comes to health care, Wisconsin is one of the best places to live in the nation, according to a new report released today.

The report by The Commonwealth Fund Commission on a High Performance Health System shows that Wisconsin ranks 10th among all states and the District of Columbia in health system performance. That is a notch above the state’s ranking in 2007, the group’s first state scorecard.

But if the state improved its performance to the best level of states — Vermont topped the chart — it would save nearly million on hospital readmissions of Medicare patients, and there would be 163,650 more adults with health insurance.

The Commonwealth Fund is a private research foundation advocating for an improved national health care system. In addition to the state assessment, it also publishes a national scorecard. The 2008 report gave the nation a failing grade.

The 2009 state scorecard was based on the performance of state health systems on 38 indicators covering five categories: access; prevention and treatment; avoidable hospital use and costs; equity; and healthy lives.

The results show wide disparity among states and little movement in narrowing the gaps that existed in 2007, particularly in access and quality of care.

“Where you live matters in terms of access, the quality of care you receive … and it shouldn’t,” said Cathy Schoen, a Commonwealth Fund senior vice president and co-author of the report, titled, “Aiming Higher: Results from the 2009 State Scorecard on Health System Performance.”

On the 38 health performance indicators ranked by state, Wisconsin scored among the top five on five criteria, the top quarter on 15, the second quarter on 17, the third quartile on four and the bottom on two.

Wisconsin’s highest rankings came in healthy lives, which includes deaths per 100,000 population. In that category, the state rose to eighth place from 21st in 2007. In access, which includes the number of insured, Wisconsin was ninth-best compared to 13th two years ago.

The state dropped to 13th place from ninth in the prevention and treatment category, and to 16th from 14th in avoidable hospital use and costs.

Joel Cantor, director of the Center for State Health Policy and a public policy professor at Rutgers University, said Wisconsin’s drop for the most part was largely the result of other states improving in certain areas, not necessarily because Wisconsin’s performance declined.

The state dropped to 13th place from ninth in the prevention and treatment category, and to 16th from 14th in avoidable hospital use and costs.

Joel Cantor, director of the Center for State Health Policy and a public policy professor at Rutgers University, said Wisconsin’s drop for the most part was largely the result of other states improving in certain areas, not necessarily because Wisconsin’s performance declined.

Hi, I’m a U.S. citizen who completed up to middle school and half of big school before moving to Taiwan. I finished the partner of high school and am close to completing my undergrad. and I’m about to take the MCATs this September. I own an average GPA of 4.0, and I have also participated within a variety of volunteer programs in hospitals, such as blood donation, nursing homes, Ambulance Volunteers, etc. And adjectives my hopes of being a doctor were at the top… until I hear something from a friend in the states that made my heart drop. He said: “You have to complete UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE IN THE U.S. and ONLY the U.S to even apply for Medical School contained by America.” And if it’s true, then it’s not fair for me.
