Choosing an Abortion Clinic in Chicago Full of Complications

Choosing an Abortion Clinic in Chicago Full of Complications

Choosing an abortion clinic in the Chicago area is challenging, given problems that have plagued such clinics over the years. In the 1970’s, Medicaid fraud and substandard care offered to women were exposed by the Chicago Sun-Times’ “Abortion Profiteers” series.

Since then, medical malpractice lawsuits are still being filed against clinics in Chicagoland.

Grounds for lawsuits against abortion clinics for physical injury after induced abortion include cervical injury or uterine perforation,[1] hemorrhage,[2] laceration of the cervix, [3] bladder or bowel perforation, [4] serious infection, [5] and wrongful death.

In addition to these more serious injuries, other complications can occur after induced abortion, such as menstrual disturbance and [6] inflammation of the reproductive organs. [7]

Long-term physical complications from abortion may surface later. For example, overzealous curettage can damage the lining of the uterus and lead to permanent infertility. [8] Overall, women who have abortions face an increased risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy [9] and a more than doubled risk of future sterility. [10] Perhaps most important of all, the risk of these sorts of complications, along with risks of future miscarriage, increase with each subsequent abortion. [11]

Abortions are also linked to breast cancer, according to researchers Joel Brind, professor of Human Biology and Endocrinology at City University of New York, and Angela Lanfranchi, M.D., clinical assistant professor of surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway, NJ.

Women in Berwyn, Cicero, LaGrange, Chicago, and nearby suburbs who are looking for an abortion clinic should first educate themselves on possible abortion complications by calling WomanCare Services in Berwyn, at 708-795-6000. Or go to www.womancare.org.

Larry Was a Good Leader among the Graduates of the Chicago English MAT program

Larry Was a Good Leader among the Graduates of the Chicago English MAT program

George Hillocks recalls: “Larry was a leader among the graduates of the Chicago English MAT program in making our approaches available to others outside the program.

With Betsy and Carolyn Walter he published two TRIP booklets with NCTE: Designing and Sequencing Preivriting Activities and Writing about Literature. A few weeks ago the latter was released as a new and expanded second edition. The first edition was on the NCTE lists for many years.

And those two books led the way for several other titles by other MAT students in the same series.”

Larry began his teaching career at Hales Franciscan High School on Chicago’s South Side. At Hales, Larry initiated his commitment toward working with all students, especially those who struggled with learning and with many other elements in their lives.

He continued his commitment to engaging all learners as he moved to Lyons Township High School, where one administrator characterized him as a “maverick.” The following vignette, reported before in Talking in Class, might reveal why an administrator would have this impression:

Larry’s class was embroiled in vigorous debates about the relative moral sense of Huckleberry Finn and Jim. Surveying the room and seeing the students challenging each other, referring to the text, citing rules, making analogies, and contending with multiple perspectives, Larry was delighted to think that his students were deeply engaged in exploring a significant critical question and applying it to an important work of literature.

Then a sharp tap at the door attracted Larry’s attention. When he looked toward the door, he saw the granite face of Ms. Huff ocher (not her real name), another English teacher, who labored in a classroom across the hall. Larry accommodated his colleague by moving into the hall for a brief colloquy. Ms. Huff ocher faced Larry and announced: “Mr. Johannessen, could you regain order in your classroom some of us are trying to TEACH!”

Larry’s approach to teaching insisted on the active participation of all learners, and he refined various activity structures that would prompt engagement. Of course, this insistence often ran counter to the practices of his colleagues. As Larry completed his doctorate, he shifted his career toward teaching at the university, where he devoted himself to producing the next generation of English teachers and to scholarship about teacher preparation and about literature connected to the Vietnam War.

He had progressed in his career to become a full professor of English at Northern Illinois University. His university students found him just as engaging as his high school students had. It is appropriate to share this post from ratemyprofessor.com because the student had conveyed the same sentiment personally to Larry: “He was the best professor I have ever had!

After my father I would consider him the greatest man I have ever met! His class actually changed my perspective on life! Recommend him extremely highly!!! Trust me his class is amazing! I thought I knew about the Vietnam War, but I didn’t know the half of it! I never left class without wanting more!!!”

Chicago Fashion Designer, Ashley Zygmunt of ZAMRIE

Chicago Fashion Designer, Ashley Zygmunt of ZAMRIE

By A. Finney

Emerging talent and creative force, Ashley Zygmunt of the ZAMRIE brand, is destined to become one to watch in the fashion industry. Her blouses and tops can be worn over skirts or pants. They are feminine, very stylish, and luxuriously made. Her tailored blouses have been compared to couture, because she pays close attention to the details. Ashley says she designs her blouses and tops to satisfy the diverse needs of every woman. She uses rich colors, lighter weight fabrics such as silks, cottons and polyester blends.

For Ashley, it’s always been about the clothes, patterns and colors. While playing soccer in school, she remembers being concerned more about the colors for the team, than its success. It was at this point, that Ashley considered making a career out of fashion design. She attended the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, and studied apparel design at Purdue University, where she also studied business and marketing. After studying abroad in Florence, Italy and Hong Kong, Ashley returned to the States and interned with high-end designer, Zac Posen, in New York City, partly because she knew that would expose her to the rigors of the fashion industry.

In 2009, Ashley was welcomed into the Chicago Fashion Incubator by Lara Miller, Executive Director. That is where she developed ZAMRIE. The name ZAMRIE comes from letters taken from her middle name, Marie, and last name, Zygmunt.

Ashley attended Zac Posen’s Spring 2008 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Bryant Park in New York. She has also participated in Macy’s show during Fashion Focus 2009, and as a Designer-In-Residence at CFI.

As an emerging designer, Ashley hopes the fashion industry in Chicago remains as welcoming as it has been, and hopes young designers see Chicago as a city full of opportunity. She urges new designers to take advantage of the Incubator programs.

Ashley was the 2009 DIR winner at the Chicago Fashion Incubator.

Her advice to aspiring designers is to first have confidence in their work, be willing to sweep floors, handle criticism, stay awake for 24 hours straight, and above all have creativity.

Ashley says fashion is like your favorite pair of jeans, and should make you feel comfortable, sexy and confident.

She is tech savy and uses social media Facebook and Twitter. Log on to Facebook and become a fan at www.facebook.com/pages/Zamrie, and follow her on Twitter: .

Look for her at this year’s Fashion Focus 2010, where she will be participating in Mario Tricoci’s show.

The ZAMRIE line can be purchased at Local Lookbook, 1211 W Webster Ave,
Chicago, IL 60614. Soon, the line will be in Perchance, 3512 N. Southport. Her line ranges in price from to 0. Ashley is thinking ahead and envisions her line becoming more accessible to customers, when her line will eventually be in Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom. She will eventually sell both online and in retail stores. In the future, she will grow her label to include jewelry and bottoms.

Chicago Fashion Designer, Concetta Cipriano of Cettina Designs

Chicago Fashion Designer, Concetta Cipriano of Cettina Designs

Article published at http://andreaandmetoo.blogspot.com/ and http://www.examiner.com/fashion-designers-in-chicago/chicago-fashion-designer-concetta-cipriano-of-cettina-designs

Hot, hot, hot describes the Cettina Designs collection. Concetta Cipriano is definitely on trend with her one shoulder dresses, and ruffled, frilly skirts with side gathers and pleats. Her made-to-order ultra feminine skirts and dresses are short, sexy and sassy.

Concetta Cipriano is an emerging design talent who was born and raised in the city of Chicago.  She recalls drawing and art  being her first love while growing up, but says art, coupled with sewing, allowed her to find her design passion. Concetta says she has always been fascinated with transforming fabric into something that is a work of art. Starting at around age twelve, she knew she wanted to be a designer, but didn’t realize until middle school that she actually wanted a career in the fashion design industry. Recently, while looking through her eighth grade yearbook, she noticed under “activities” and “projected career”, she wrote — fashion designer. Wow, dreams really do come true!

She graduated from Dominican University with a double major in Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising. After graduating from college, but not really decided on what her next move would be, she spent a couple of years focusing on building her portfolio. And, in 2009, she launched Cettina Designs. Wanting to raise her visibility in the fashion industry, she launched her website and started getting involved in fashion events. After that, opportunities opened up for Cettina Designs, and growth soon followed. Concetta has also been featured in many publications.

When I asked Concetta about her design philosophy, she stated: “With each piece created, Cettina strives to balance femininity with structure, strength with beauty, and intricacy with simplicity; the same elements that embody the women she designs for.” Concetta also says: “Fashion is an extraordinary concept. It allows anyone to tell a story about themselves without saying a word. Fashion has the ability to make people feel good about themselves, and gives them the confidence they need to take on the world.”

Concetta describes her design style as: “Cettina is a women’s high-fashion contemporary/evening wear clothing line. The overall aesthetic is created by blending structured pieces and silhouettes with softer elements such as ruffles and draping to provide balance. I find inspiration for my line through my love of nature and history.”  Some of her favorite designers are Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.

Her advice to up-and-coming fashion designers: “Besides the obvious sewing skills and creativity, it really takes a lot of determination and patience to be a designer. Sometimes things don’t go as smoothly as you anticipate, but you need to be prepared for the obstacles that may come your way as a business owner. Throughout all the hard work, it is always important not to lose sight of why you are in this business.”

Concetta hopes the city of Chicago continues to nurture emerging designers, so that design students won’t feel the need to move to other big cities in order to be successful. Concetta says, “Chicago is an amazing city and there are a lot of talented people here as well as a lot of great opportunities that need to be taken advantage of. I believe that the city of Chicago has the potential to become a major fashion city of the world.”

You may connect with Concetta on Facebook, follow her on Twitter or her website.  Prices range from 0 and 0.

When I asked Concetta about future plans for Cettina Designs, she said she plans to have Cettina Designs be a prominent fashion line in the city of Chicago. She also hopes to have her line sold at specialty stores across the city.

Tips For Business Trips To Chicago

Category : Region III

Tips For Business Trips To Chicago

Chicago is one of the most popular destinations for business travel in the United States. Consolidating costs during travels is a must during times of a slow economy. There are many ways to consolidate costs depending on whether the business trip is for a group or a few individuals. The success of a business trip will really lie in the planning process of it all. Given a little leeway for revisions and changes in plans, costs and confusion can be reduced significantly by planning far in advance for transportation, accommodation, dining and even leisure.

The Chicago Loop is one of the most prominent places for business and travel in the Chicago area. Some of the popular business destinations within the Loop include The McCormick Center, The Gleacher Center, and the University Conference Center. Unfortunately, The Loop has many of the end destinations for business travelers, but is not always the most cost efficient location to book a hotel room for your business trip.

As always, prices for preparations are subject to change for any circumstance (holidays, demand, distance, amenities).

For business travel groups with smaller numbers it may be easy to find rooms close to the loop in Chicago, although probably more expensive. The loop has hotels of all ranges like the five star Trump International Hotel & Tower ranging all the way to the cost efficient choices of one-star hotels. However, as mentioned earlier, availability of rooms is always subject to change in a busy location like Chicago, especially for group rates. Many online hotel finders will even personally help you find hotel availabilities for renting nine or more rooms.

Another tip is to calculate the best way to provide dining to all of those attending the business trips. Some ways to save money on food would be to find out if the hotel has complimentary breakfast and if the convention center will provide lunch. In many occasions this can wipe out 2/3 of the costs it takes to feed your business. If Dinner is the only meal that needs to be provided for associates, it works best to have the meals bought on one credit card. This can make totaling up the costs of the trip much simpler than tracking down receipts of every person that went and deciding if their expenses were valid to be compensated for.

If small business groups are able to find a room within a close proximity of the Loop, the Chicago Transit can be a dependable source of transportation to take them around the loop of the business district. However, for groups (small or large) that are staying in a location farther away, renting a Chicago Charter Bus can be an excellent way to consolidate traveling costs and keep the group together.

The advantages of hiring Chicago charter bus can outnumber those of renting a car/van because of not having to pay for fuel, insurance, driver liability or time lost due to faulty directions or bad traffic. Another unforeseen advantage to having a Chicago charter bus is to plan a Chicago site seeing tour for your company. With one company, you could be picked up from the airport, taken to and from business affairs, to dining and even out for an evening of deserved fun.

Planning a business trip to Chicago can be easy and less stressful with proper planning in regards to transportation, hospitality and dining. The more time in advance that is spent planning, the more likely savings will be attained. Don’t hesitate to plan your next business trip.

The Marketing Executive for Executive Coach, Shelia Dodd, has experience with Midwest and Chicago Charter Buses that have been around since 1923. Executive Coach offers services in the Chicago area for Chicago sightseeing tours, Chicago Field Trips and even day trips out of Chicago.
