College Football – in Just Two Years Nick Saban Has the Crimson Tide No. 1 in the Nation

Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley

Goodbye Texas. Hello Alabama. It is now the Crimson Tide that have become the No. 1 coveted target in the nation for big-time college football programs in America.

The Texas Longhorns, who were No. 1, took on their 4th top-ranked team in consecutive weeks and came up short on the road Saturday (11-1-08) in Lubbock to No. 6 Texas Tech 39-33 on a scoring play that never should have happened with 1 second left.

In a Texas-style shootout, the Longhorns trailed 19-0 and rallied to take a 33-32 lead on Vondrell McGee’s 4-yard touchdown run with only 1:29 to play. That gave just a little too much time left for the Red Raiders’ Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree, two gifted athletes on a mission few others would dare to take.

With virtually no time left and 28 yards from pay dirt, Harrell found himself surrounded by nasty Longhorns and out of time with Crabtree in double coverage and no room to even turn around. So what does a great quarterback do? He throws high into double coverage, hoping his All-American wide receiver is as great as Harrell thinks he is.

Michael Crabtree does not disappoint either his teammates or himself. He rises to the challenge, grabs the rock with sure hands, breaks the wannabe arm tackle of a sophomore cover back trying to strip the ball, and takes a couple of steps into the end zone and the game clock shows 1 second left.

Amazingly, Crabtree stays in bounds as thousands and thousands of screaming, delirious fans pour onto the field of play. It is sheer bedlam as fans begin to rip down the goal post at one end of the field, and the officials on the field try to restore order for the extra-point attempt and final kickoff to Texas to eliminate the one second left on the clock.

This is college football in America on a Saturday afternoon. A major university with thousands of fans who have suffered through the dominance of Texas and Oklahoma teams for too many years. This is their moment of glory and they will not be denied. It is the competitive spirit of America in its finest hour, their years of hardship and agony are over and their 15 minutes of fame and glory have arrived.

All of the Texas Tech fans, players and coaches need to party down big-time because Texas Tech’s season is not over. The Red Raiders will now run a gauntlet somewhat similar to the one that the Longhorns faced as 8-1 Oklahoma State and 8-1 Oklahoma lie ahead and a lesser-light Baylor team lurks in the background.

The drama of this game could not have been higher. Texas Tech only needed a field goal to win the game, but could not rely on its kicker to convert from some 40 yards out. Not only was Harrell’s pass into double coverage over the top, and even though Crabtree made a great catch, had he been tackled short of the end zone or gone out of bounds, it is unlikely in the moment that the Red Raiders could have called a time out and still had enough time to set up for a game-winning field goal try.

“All we needed was a field goal, but a touchdown’s even sweeter,” said Raider quarterback Graham Harrell after the game. “If you’re a quarterback and don’t want to be in that situation, you should change positions.” Harrell finished with 474 yards passing and 2 touchdowns while completing 36 of 53 attempts.

Was this really THAT big of a win for Texas Tech? Yes it was. The Red Raider win over Texas was the biggest win in Texas Tech history and its first win against a No. 1-ranked team. The victory gave them command of the Big 12 South and put them smack in the middle of the race for a spot in the national championship game.

And just how close was Texas to winning? How about 1 second among 60 minutes of play? Or the fact that on the play prior to Crabtree’s winning 28-yard TD catch, freshman safety Blake Gideon dropped what would have been a game-ending interception on a tipped pass. That single drop meant Harrell could make the dangerous decision to throw into double coverage to Crabtree. The rest is now history.

The win vaulted No. 6 Texas Tech past Penn State, Florida and Oklahoma into the No. 2 spot in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll. For Texas Tech fans around the world, this rise to prominence came none too soon.

The reason Alabama vaulted from No. 2 in the AP rankings to the top spot is because the Crimson Tide shut out Arkansas State Saturday 35-0, scoring in every quarter and looking every bit as if they should be No. 1.

Coach Nick Saban has quickly become better than the gold standard in Alabama. Saban has taken the Crimson Tide to the No. 1 ranking in the nation in only his second year at Tuscaloosa.

Saban is the highest paid coach in college football ( million for 8 years). Many fans and boosters at Alabama believe Saban is worth every penny of it and now you know why.

Saban turned around Michigan State’s program in one year and went to 3 bowl games in his first 3 years. He turned around Louisiana State’s program in one year, won or shared 3 SEC titles, went to bowl games all 5 years and won the National Championship in 2003. He turned around Alabama in his first season last year and went to a bowl game. Now his Crimson Tide players are 9-0 and in the hunt for a spot in this year’s national championship game.

No. 5 Florida recorded a huge win on the road at No. 8 Georgia, putting some major hurt on the Bulldogs, 49-10. Since their unexpected lack of focus and 31-30 loss to Mississippi, Coach Urban Meyer’s Gators have gone ballistic croc hunting, ripping apart Arkansas 38-7, LSU 51-21 and Kentucky 63-5 before hosting Georgia.

Apparently the Gators have become so savage that they will rip apart their victims but also drink their blood in their quest to get into the national championship game.

Both Texas and Georgia lost to top-ranked teams. Texas Tech, Alabama and Florida were among 13 of the 20 AP Poll teams to win this week, 7 others—including Texas and Georgia which played top-ranked teams–lost and 5 teams were idle. No. 3 Penn State, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 18 Ball State, No. 21 North Carolina and No. 25 Maryland were all idle.

The other ranked teams which won big and made a statement included:

No. 4 Oklahoma at home in a waltz over Nebraska 62-28 (the Sooners led 62-21 after 3 quarters), No. 7 Southern Cal on the road shut out Washington 56-0 (the Huskies are dead and waiting for fired head coach Tyrone Willingham to get on down the road), No. 9 Oklahoma State at home over Iowa State 59-17 (the Cowboys scored in every quarter), No. 11 Boise State at home shut out New Mexico State 49-0 (the Broncos scored in every quarter against what we think is a team in the southwest), No. 12 TCU on the road over UNLV 44-14, and No. 15 LSU at home over Tulane 35-10.

Four other ranked teams won but were hardly impressive. They included:

No. 10 Utah on the road over weak, unranked New Mexico 13-10 (the 9-0 unbeaten Utah Utes are overrated big-time and may find that out this week when they clash with 9-1 TCU), No. 14 Missouri on the road over unranked Baylor 31-28 (the now toothless Tigers take down a 3-win Baylor team), No. 17 BYU on the road over weak, unranked Colorado State 45-42 (the Cougars are hardly ferocious, they gave up 32 points to TCU, 35 to UNLV and now 42 to Colorado State after beating a winless 0-8 Washington team 28-27 earlier in the season), and No. 22 Michigan State at home over Wisconsin 25-24 (it’s true that Wisconsin may well be the best 4-5 team in the country, but the Spartans should have won by two touchdowns).

Five other ranked teams committed the unpardonable sin of losing to an unranked team. They included:

No. 16 Florida State lost on the road to Georgia Tech 31-28, No. 19 and unbeaten Tulsa lost on the road to Arkansas 30-23, No. 20 Minnesota lost at home to Northwestern 24-17, No. 23 Oregon lost on the road to California 26-16, and No. 24 South Florida lost on the road to Cincinnati 24-10.

The College Athletic Scholarship – One Way to Pay For College Tuition

Category : Region V

The College Athletic Scholarship – One Way to Pay For College Tuition

The college athletic scholarship may be one way college athletes can pay for a solid college education given talent and a good work ethic. The average cost of college tuition today with room and board is about ,000 annually at an in-state public university and around ,000 annually at a private school not including the purchases of books, fees, and spending money, let alone airfare if your student athlete is out of state. College tuition is only going to continue to rise with the state of the economy and its impact on state budgets. Colleges and universities will continue to raise tuition and student fees to meet their costs.  We are already seeing this in California where both the University of California, California State University system and community colleges are all increasing the cost of attending college today. If you happen to be a student athlete with enough talent, you may have an alternative.

That’s what we faced five years ago with a high school senior who decided to play college basketball very late. But our daughter was not the elite athlete; in fact, her high school coach considered her a D-III athlete at best, possibly D-II if she stretched. She was going to have to do her own college athletic recruiting because she decided late in the game that she wanted to play at the next level, and, because of injuries and being a late bloomer, no college coach was knocking on her door with sports scholarships in his hand.

And, in fact, today, universities and colleges have reduced the recruiting budgets for college coaches. There was a recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the fact that at some universities and college, the budget for athletics had become completely out of alignment with other budgets within a particular college.  The article went on to say that there was a push to reduce athletic budgets and sync them with other department budgets.  What does this mean for the athlete looking for a college athletic scholarship?  In some situations, where this might be a state school, it could mean less money for recruiting, fewer scholarships.  In other instances at private universities, probably the athletic advancement office will have to beat the bushes for more donor support. It is too early to predict the fallout from this restructuring, but it means it is even more imperative that high school student athletes given that they have talent will have to continue to search for sports scholarships and do their own college athletic recruiting if they are to try to obtain a college athletic scholarship, whether that’s full or partial.  Most likely this will be a partial scholarship.

In our research to figure out how we would find out how to help our daughter obtain a college athletic scholarship and reduce that tuition bill, we found out that about 5% of high school athletes go on to play college sports in all sports. We also discovered there are sports scholarships for many other sports and not just in the NCAA!  And, we learned that high school student athletes can find academic scholarships at great D-III schools that have highly competitive sports programs. Given talent, a good work ethic, the ability to maintain decent grades, and a willingness to continue to learn and improve one’s skills, there is a broad range of colleges and universities offering sports scholarships.  The key is to do your homework and have a plan.  And, from experience, I can say that it was well worth the effort.

My daughter benefited in so many ways and gained a valuable college education.  While hers was a different route than some, choosing to be a walk-on at DePaul University in Chicago, and then transferring to the University of San Francisco with a D-I scholarship, the journey provided invaluable lessons, and a college degree.  Athletic scholarships are not just for the D-I elite athlete, so do your homework, have a plan and be open to the possibilities.

Al Musante, Keep Playing! Athletics

Al Musante has been a parent volunteer coach for middle school basketball for a number of years, both for his daughter and his son’s MVP team.  Al grew up learning basketball playing with the “Newell brothers”, sons of Pete Newell, Sr., the former University of California, Berkeley head men’s basketball coach and U.S. Olympic basketball coach) and continued this passion as a freshman and sophomore basketball player at Bishop O’Dowd High School.  He learned fundamental basketball from both Pete Newell, Sr. and Frank LaPorte, former head coach, men’s basketball at O’Dowd High School and St. Joseph of Notre Dame High School, Alameda California.  He worked with his daughter who went from a non-starter on her high school basketball team to a walk-on position at DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois and a D-I scholarship at the University of San Francisco.  Through this process, Al developed a six-step game plan to help other student athletes find an athletic scholarship and match their dream of playing their sport in college with a solid college academic program.

Join the Coach with the Worst Job in College Football with University of Miami Football Tickets

Join the Coach with the Worst Job in College Football with University of Miami Football Tickets

Miami football tickets are always hard to find, and that’s because the Hurricanes have been one of the most dominant college football programs in the country over the past 20 – 25 years. Few teams can match the sizzling style of play, intensity and pure intimidation that the ‘Canes bring to the field every time out. Many an opponent has in effect lost the game before it started due to the aura of Miami.

However, that aura is in a downward cycle, and the piranhas are starting to turn their appetite towards their embattled coach. Larry Coker has done almost nothing but win since he took over for Butch Davis, and fans, students, alumni and boosters are starting to call for his ouster now that the team has gotten off to a bad start and finds itself out of the Top 25 for the first time in years.

There are several reasons, therefore, that of all the “big-time” college football jobs out there, Miami’s is the worst of the lot. No one goes to Miami and is set for life, as is the case for programs like Notre Dame, USC and Nebraska if a winning tradition is established. There are several reasons for this reality, and we’ll examine them below.

Expectations

No school, not even Notre Dame, puts the same level of expectations into their football team that they do at Miami. The Hurricanes have won five national championships, and basically, any year that doesn’t conclude with another national championship trophy is considered a failure. Although the team has always been very good, this all started with Howard Schnellenberger’s teams of the 1980′s and the tradition they established. This tradition was continued with the likes of Jimmy Johnson, who brought home his share of hardware as well.

Fans

Although Miami football tickets are always snapped up, the program is in some ways a victim of its own fervent fans, as this group is always ready to create a loud and intimidating environment, but they’re also quick to turn when things go bad. Simply put, the fans have become spoiled with winning, and any coach who doesn’t meet their expectations is run out of town on a rail. No one cried when Dennis Erickson left for the NFL, and all he did was win a national championship and post the highest winning percentage by a Miami coach in history.

National Disdain

Given all the winning Miami has done and the program’s “bad boy” image, college football fans around the country generally like to watch Miami lose. The team is disliked for its reputation of being brash and over-the-top with its confidence, and the Hurricanes are known to dance on an opposing team’s logo before the start of a road game.

This reputation generally rubs off on the coach, which is why Johnson, Davis, Erickson and now Coker are generally not seen as popular figures. It’s always been an “us against the world” mentality in Coral Gables, so when the Hurricane’s own fan base turns on the coach, he has nowhere to turn for support.

This is why Johnson, Erickson and Davis all left after establishing a winning tradition, and no coach has stayed at Miami for more than six seasons. The coaches burn out, and that’s also an unspoken tradition at Miami. They all know that they have to continue to help pump up demand for Miami football tickets and merchandise, and even a loss or two can drive them to the edge. This is why Miami’s job is the worst in college football, and Larry Coker may be the latest coach to realize just that.

Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College : The best in Ayurveda education

In the history of medical colleges in India, the names of Ayurvedic colleges are a few in number. As far the generation of Ayurvedic and Unani treatment in India is concerned, the name of the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia college is simply the best.

Renowned social worker and the pioneer Hakeem Abud Najeed Khan established the Ayurvedic & Unani Tibbia College in the year 1889. The institution is located at Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest and busiest markets in New Delhi, India. In 1889, after the formal;inauguration by a local commissioner, it was referred to as the Madrasa Tibbia, and functioned under the Anjuman-e-Tibbia society. After the death of founder Majeed in 1901, his younger brother Hakim Wasil took charge of the Madrasa, and in 1903, Masih-ul-Hakim Ajmal, better known as Hakim Ajmal Khan, raised the quality of education in the institution. The efforts of Ajmal Khan helped extend the infrastructural site over an area of 50 acres including a garden of herbs.

Five years after Lord Hardinge, the then Viceroy of India, laid the foundation stone of the Tibbia College in the year 1916 on March 29, the institution had buildings that comprised classrooms, laboratories, hospital pharmacies, hostels, office and staff quarters. The blend of classical, colonial, Mughul and Indian architectures was utilised for constructing the institute’s buildings. Ajmal Khan previously corresponded with the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi during the Khilafat Movement, a political campaign launched mainly by Muslims in South Asia in the aftermath of the World War I. And, subsequently, for the association with Gandhi, on February 13, 1921, the latter had inaugurated the institution. There are several famous Medical colleges in Delhi.

After a long time, on February 15, 2008, the Delhi government announced about its intentions of upgrading the college into a university, in recognition of the college’s contributions to Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. The institution has a hospital attached which provides treatment having one hundred and ten beds. Practical training is also provided to all the students studying here. Thus, another milestone have been achieved in the Medical Colleges in India.

Administration : Delhi being one of the major hubs for such treatment institutes, several colleges of this class are here. Its Ayurvedic & Unani Tibbia College is definitely a famous name among them. This college receives grants from University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated to Delhi University (DU) in the year 1973. Ayurved ic and Unani Tibbia College is a very popular institution that provides Science (Ayurvedic) education to its students.

Courses offered: The four-year Bachelor degrees that are offered by the university are- Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery.

Other activities: Besides the college and hospital, Ajmal Khan helped to establish a Hindustani Dawakhana and Ayurvedic Rasayanashastra for manufacturing medicines. The Dawakhana, which emerges as a Gothic cathedral with its curious blend of Asiatic and Latin architecture, was founded in the year 1910. Due to the presence of the herbal garden within its campus, the dispensary was able to get patents for 84 rare herbal formulae like Sekhon, Musafi, Sarbat-e-Sadar, and Hebab-Kebatare. The institution developed and upgraded research activities in several unparalleled medicines, such as, Roulfiaserpentina, the medicine to recover somebody having mental problems.

Life after College: Iowa Alumni Association for Postgraduates

Some might agree with the idea that the creation makes no sense because it provides minor perspectives for its members. If you are the supporter of this idea, you are so wrong because such organizations have a lot of hidden dimensions for self-development and improvement. Hence, postgraduates are presented with a chance to contribute to the advancement and enhancement of education and modernization of international educational establishments. One of such alumni association is located in Iowa University.

Recent goals pursued by the Iowa Alumni Association.

At the moment, this organization is about to prepare the first official educational establishment of alumni directory. This event is planned to be accomplished within eight years. In order to compete this interesting project successfully, it needs an essential support. The directory itself covers personal, business, and academic information about Iowa University graduates. However, this organization is not closed for the outsiders.

The creation of new job opportunities

Apart from conventional goals pursued by such organizations, this alumni association is aimed at expanding job market for those who care about the development of such projects. Therefore, the Iowa University is seeking for enthusiastic and talented people endowed with leadership skills and ready to work out effective strategies and concepts of alumni membership. The development of the alumni infrastructure will encourage former students to fulfill themselves in other academic fields and to share this experience with others. Finally, this strategy will allow to considerably lessen the unemployment level.

Other goals established by the Iowa Alumni Association

The members of the organization are not confined to educational purposes. Moreover, their activities cover other fields of social life. College Football Wrap-Up Week 5 – Only a Baker’s Dozen of Teams Still Remain Undefeated

Category : Region IV

College Football Wrap-Up Week 5 – Only a Baker’s Dozen of Teams Still Remain Undefeated

Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

Only 13 among the 120 major teams remain undefeated after the 5th week of a 16-week college football season. They are Florida, Texas, Alabama, LSU, Boise State, Cincinnati, TCU, Iowa, Kansas, Auburn, South Florida, Missouri and Wisconsin.

On the flip side, only 7 teams have yet to win a game–Rice, New Mexico, Eastern Michigan, Florida International University, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky and Miami (OH). So, with tongue in cheek, 20 teams still have perfect records–13 are excellent and 7 are terrible.

Considering that most teams are now playing a 12-game season, we have passed the one-third mark to the finish. Many fans may have thought that Virginia Tech, USC, Ohio State, BYU, Oklahoma and even Mississippi might still be unbeaten. Not so.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to the 123rd-ranked University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Miners who outlasted and outplayed the 12th-ranked Houston Cougars, 58-41, in a barn-burner of competitive excitement. With the score tied at 17 in the first half, Houston quit too early as UTEP won the 2nd half 41-24.

Coach Mike Price’s Miners could only muster 53 yards of total offense in losing 64-7 to 2nd-ranked Texas last week on-the-road, but arose from the humiliation to amass 581 yards of offense at home. Donald Buckram picked up 262 yards rushing and scored 4 TDs. UTEP really found its mojo in the second half, putting 20 points on the board in the 3rd quarter and 21 in the 4th.

Houston’s high-powered offense—led by quarterback Case Keenum with 536 passing yards and 5 touchdowns—could not keep up with UTEP on the scoreboard. The loss was the Cougars’ first after scoring 55, 45 and 29 points in their first 3 victories; unfortunately, this was bound to happen because Houston has 11 players on defense, they just don’t play good defense, giving up an average of 32 points per game.

If Houston coach Kevin Sumlin ever decides to hire a good defensive coordinator and recruit some defensive players, Houston will become a much more important player against quality competition.

The second biggest upset saw 17th-ranked Miami (FL) get over last week’s 31-7 away loss to 6th-ranked Virginia Tech by returning home to beat 8th-ranked Oklahoma 21-20. The Hurricanes led 21-17 after 3 quarters and managed to hold the Sooners to a field goal in the last quarter to win.

Unranked Michigan State, which has looked terrible with 3 losses in the last 3 weeks, defended its turf successfully by upending 22nd-ranked Michigan 26-20 in overtime. The loss was the first for the Wolverines, who were behind 10-6 at the half but managed to send the game into OT at 20-20. The Spartans’ true freshman tailback Larry Caper scampered 23 yards, eluding at least 2 tacklers on the way, to score the winning touchdown for Michigan State.

Whoever said it’s so hard to win victories on the road forgot to tell the majority of quality teams. Of the 12 ranked teams playing away games this week, only 3–Oklahoma, Houston and Michigan–lost while 9 won. The winners included:

Third-ranked Alabama beat Kentucky 38-20; 4th-ranked LSU needed two touchdowns in the last 2:53 of the game to nip 18th-ranked Georgia 20-13; and 6th-ranked Virginia Tech managed to get by a 97th-ranked Duke team 34-26, a very unimpressive victory despite being on-the-road. Giving up 26 points to Duke is like taking your sister to the senior prom. Seventh-ranked Southern California ripped apart the 24th-ranked California Bears, 30-3; the Bears seem to fold every season, and sometimes even this early.

Ninth-ranked Ohio State traveled to Indiana and won 33-14. Apparently they still play football at Indiana, but with the Hoosiers, it is sometimes hard to tell. Tenth-ranked Cincinnati got by 150th-ranked and winless (you read it right) Miami of OH, 37-13. Another less than impressive performance by a highly-ranked team. Fifteenth-ranked Penn State beat 85th-ranked Illinois 35-17; at least the Nittany Lions were not playing a 1-AA school this week.

Twenty-first-ranked Mississippi, the most-hyped new “good” team of the season, put down 77th-ranked Vanderbilt, 23-7; the score was 23-7 after the 3rd quarter, both teams decided to walk through the 4th quarter, saving some energy for party-time later. Twenty-fifth-ranked Georgia Tech beat Mississippi State 42-31, showing that Top 25 teams can give up way too many points to an opponent and still win with very little effectiveness on the defensive side of the ball.

Five other ranked teams scored home victories. They included 11th-ranked TCU over 117th-ranked SMU 39-14; 16th-ranked Oregon over inept, hapless 101st-ranked Washington State, 52-6—Oregon led 42-0 at the half, showered early and still won by 46; and 20th-ranked BYU had an unimpressive win over 119th-ranked Utah State 35-17.

Fifth-ranked Boise State notched a ridiculous 34-16 victory over 139th-ranked, 1-AA University of California at Davis (UC Davis), another part of the Broncos’ cream puff (some say powder puff) schedule. The 13th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, who upset 5th-ranked Penn State 21-10 in an away game last week, had the feared letdown and just got by 125th-ranked Arkansas State, 24-21. The Hawkeye defense, apparently plumb tuckered out from their effort at Happy Valley, let Arkansas State score 14 points in the last quarter to make it too close. Without a 4th quarter field goal, Iowa would have gone into overtime.

Three unranked teams went 5-0 in their bid to get into the AP Top 25 Poll. They included Wisconsin on-the-road over Minnesota 31-28, South Florida on-the-road over 95th-ranked Syracuse 34-20, and Auburn over Tennessee 26-22.

Eight other 4-1 unranked teams continued to win. Notre Dame had to go to overtime at home to turn back Washington, 37-30, marking the 3rd consecutive game that the Fighting Irish have won in the last 60 seconds. They don’t call the Irish lucky for nothing. Idaho, ranked 89th, beat visiting Colorado State, ranked 62nd, 31-29. Boston College beat Florida State 28-21 at home.

Pittsburgh traveled to Louisville and won 35-10; the Central Michigan Chippewas traveled to Buffalo and beat the 127th-ranked Bulls 20-13; South Carolina won at home over 158th-ranked, in-state rival 1-AA South Carolina State 38-14; and Tulsa traveled to Rice and beat the inept, hapless, winless Owls 27-10. Owls don’t eat rice, they are just apparently called the Rice Owls; maybe they are smart birds who don’t win a lot.

Stanford also beat visiting UCLA 24-16 to go 4-1.

Six Top 25 teams were idle this week—No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Texas, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Kansas, No. 23 Missouri and No. 24 Nebraska.

Many graduating college students worry about health insurance coverage when they graduate college and are job-hunting out in the real world. There are a lot of coverage options for graduates that they may not even know about. The first one is that it is possible that you may be able to continue your college’s health insurance plan, some schools offer extensions on their coverage past graduation. Many schools know that it is very difficult to find a job and coverage after graduating and it is likely that the recent graduate may not be able to afford insurance immediately. If you are covered by your college or university’s insurance plan, you may be able to continue coverage, in order to do this you can contact your school’s registrar’s office and talk to them about possibly retaining coverage post graduation. They may be able to continue coverage for a few months until you are able to get your feet on the ground. For many school’s this type of insurance would be called a continuation plan because it “continues” after college, because in many states specifically Georgia, the rate of uninsured people dramatically increases after college so many Georgia health insurance companies deal with schools to create continuation plans for students.

Another option for graduating college students is continuing on their parents plan. For many students who have been under their parent’s insurance plans through college there is a possibility that you may be able to continue coverage after graduation. Every health insurance company has different rules for this but most Georgia health insurance companies allow a continuation past graduation. In order to find out if your insurance company does this you can ask your provider and get details regarding the circumstances. Also it is important to look very closely at your parent’s plan after graduation because depending on the state you live in your coverage may extend past college, which would require you to seek no additional coverage. Many students and parents are not aware of this in many cases until it is too late and they have already purchased their own insurance plan, which is another thing that graduating college students can do.

Purchasing your own individual health insurance plan is something you can do if you are no longer on your parent’s plan or your schools. When you decide to purchase your own insurance policy you have to look around and see what would be best for you in your situation. In the state of Georgia, health insurance policies can be very inexpensive if you shop around and find the one that meets your personal needs the best. Keep in mind the budget that you have to spend on insurance policy, as well as the flexibility you want with your plan when it comes to coverage.
