OU Club of Colorado – OU vs Baylor Newsletter
Poor Aggies! ..oh wait we have a big game this week first
We had a nice quality showing of fan support last week at Stoney’s for the Texas Tech watch party. It wasn’t the biggest game on the Sooners remaining schedule, as the team is not heading into a big two game road gauntlet in the drive for an unprecedented 7th Big 12 Championship, so it was nice to see everyone show up!
This week we have the Baylor Baptist Bears down in Waco, TX. Game Time is 6:00 pm Mountain Time. Led by their quarterback Robert Griffin the Third, Baylor has a quality team. It’s not your daddy’s Bears.heck, it’s not even YOUR Baylor Bears. Baylor was leading the Big 12 south this year for a brief happy moment in the sun. However, they have dropped two in a row, first to Oklahoma State, and last week at home against Texas A&M. The Bears are currently 7-4.
We all know of OU’s struggles on the road over the last couple of years, but the Sooners have never, lost to the Baylor Bears EVER in football. This is a collision of trends.which one continues? Hopefully it will be the Sooners going 20-0 against Baylor and setting up a huge Bedlam Game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys next week!
So come on out to Stoney’s Bar and Grill for Sooner Magic Shot Specials, Big Shiner Beers, and Fresh Fried Okra. Also they are working on a special Thanksgiving Slider I hope will be available, it’s basically Thanksgiving Dinner..on a bun. It’s amazing!
If you are in Colorado Springs, don’t forget to join our sister group, the OU Club of Southern Colorado at Buffalo Wild Wings North in the Springs. They have had a great turn out every week, and growing stronger each week. They are also VERY kid and family friendly as there are video games there for the kids to play when they get bored watching football. (a Sooner Fan’s kid getting bored watching football????)
Scholarships:
Like we mentioned last week, we are now in Scholarship Season. (Doesn’t that sound important!) We are trying to figure out a better way to reach the prospective students. We can get a list from the University of Oklahoma, for students that have applied to OU and have been accepted. We can do the search for Colorado, the front-range, or however we want. The new enrollment applications now include a scholarship app, so the students don’t have to fill out a hundred individual apps for all the different scholarships out there.
This will be a great boon to us in knowing all the students out there, but it might be too much information. At first they will just be names and lists on paper. Not exactly a personal connection. We are trying to figure out a good way to narrow the list down in a personal way, that won’t require a lot of work from the Club officers (like writing or emailing all the students on the list)
First though, we want to reach out to students that are attached to the OU Club of Colorado, so if you know any High School Students that will be attending OU from Colorado (or Wyoming) have them drop a little note to us at: ouclubofco@gmail.com
Jason Boland and the Stragglers Concert & Bedlam Week Mixer (updated)
One of the favorite bands/music we play at the watch parties is Jason Boland and the Stragglers. You know them from “If I Ever Get Back to Oklahoma” “Pearl Snap Shirts”, “Outlaw Band (from Oklahoma)”and “Bourbon Legend” songs we play. They are from Oklahoma and will be at the Grizzly Rose, Wednesday November 24th, the night before Thanksgiving. Tickets are in advance, or at the door.
We’ll be joining several fans from the Colorado Cowboys (the Okla. St. Denver Alumni Club) for a Bedlam week Networking and Mixer night out. They were nice enough to invite us along for this little piece of Oklahoma coming here to Denver! Dress in your team colors and mingle with your little brothers and sisters and see a great concert by one of the best bands from Oklahoma the night before Thanksgiving and only a few days before the big OU/OSU Bedlam shoot out football game!
Update: We had a couple of questions come up since we posted this last week: No we don’t have the entire bar to ourselves and this is NOT a private concert. We don’t get a cut of the door or cover, and this not a fund-raising event. We don’t have a specific area reserved for seating.
I hope we can do more events with the Colorado Cowboys in the future. We have a lot of things in common, and we all have roots back home in Oklahoma. We have far more ties that bind, than divide.
Mile High Bowl Association Holiday Party (updated)
The Mile High Bowl Association’s annual Holiday Party is December 4th at 6 pm to Midnight. It will be at Blake Street Tavern this year located at 2301 Blake Street in Denver. This is the same night as the Big 12 Championship game. You can get a ticket for only a person at their website: click on the PDF for the application. The OU Club of Colorado will be a sponsor again this year, and we’ll have a few tickets to give away at upcoming watch parties. Fill free to join them for this fun event.
Update: This week we expect to have a representative from the Mile High Bowl at the Baylor Watch Party handing out fliers and answering your questions about this event.

# 16 Oklahoma Sooners AT Baylor bears Watch Party
A big game against Baylor? Who would have thunked it!? OU needs to win to set up the Bedlam game for a trip to the Big 12 Championship. OU is 19-0 against Baylor. We might have a few Baylor fans joining us for this watch party and as always, please be the gracious hosts you have been all year, and show them some nice Oklahoma hospitality.
Parking Heads up: there is a big Snowboarding event at the Arts Institute, which is only a block north of Stoney’s on Lincoln, this Saturday. It’s set for 11am to 4 pm, so there may be some left over folks in the area from this event.

Oklahoma Sooners AT Oklahoma State Cowboys Bedlam Game Watch PartyGame Time is set. This is looking like it’s for a trip to the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, TX. The Choke Pokes think this is finally their year (what’s new), and they have the Sooners in “lovely” Stillwater this year to boot. So far the Cowboys are looking like the real deal with several offensive weapons. Can OU beat OSU on the road? This game is going to be one of the biggest Bedlam games in several years!

Oklahoma Sooners VS Nebraska Cornhuskers – Big XII Championship Game Watch Party
Yeah, this is a bit premature, but I just wanted you know when it was, like maybe you were living under a rock or something. If OU wins out we’ll get to play Nebraska at the end of the season for a BCS Bowl trip on the line, just like it should be, as we say good bye to an old friend. We will invoke the ghosts of Billy Sims and Keith Jackson and days of Sooner Magic from the past in the last game of this big rivalry. It seems like we should bring oranges to throw on the field, like the old days.
