Blogs Could Become An Embarassing Exposure.-Instant Article Submitter

Public entries intended for friends could become an embarrassing exposure.

The number of places where young people go to bare their souls, to vent, to gossip is increasing. These places are the blogs – where people post their innermost thoughts for any number of Web surfers to see.

“My philosophy is to be totally honest – whether it’s about my neighbor’s dog or my opinions about Iraq war, since the people who read my blog are friends or acquaintances of mine.” said Sarah, who lives in suburban Illinois and has been blogging for three years.

But some people find that a price can be paid for putting one’s life online. Maya Marcel-Keyes, daughter of conservative politician Alan Keyes, had some discussions on her blog about being a lesbian, and this became an issue during her father’s recent campaign for U.S. Senate because he made anti-gay statements.

Such incidents can cause personal and public dramas, often taking on a life they wouldn’t have if the Web had not come along and turned individuals into publishers.

Other people think that some blog entries about partying and dating exploits will have ramifications down the road.

“I would bet that in the 2016 election, somebody’s Facebook entry will come back to bite them,”, says Steve Jones, head of the communications department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, referring to a networking site for college students and alumni, that is something of a cross between a yearbook and a blog.

Some traditional blog sites, like Xanga, LiveJournal or MySpace, which allow easy creation of a Web site with text, photos and often music, have gotten more popular in recent years, especially among the younger set.

Pew Internet & American Life Project made some surveys completed in recent months and found that nearly a fifth of teens who have access to the Web have their own blogs. And 38 percent of teens say they read other people’s blogs.

I’m increasingly hearing stories about the risk of posting a blog, says Amanda Lenhart, a researcher at Pew. For example, a man whose daughter was a college student looking for a job. He typed his daughter’s name into a search engine and found her blog, with a title that began “The Drunken Musings of ….”

“And they surely have some discussions” said Lenhart, chuckling.

Gm, Chrysler Deal Could Wound Michigan

Gm, Chrysler Deal Could Wound Michigan

As the adage says it – if you want to be excellent in all you do, master the right timing. Timing is everything. When you want to open and close the valves on your engine at appropriate times, you need to install something as effective as the Volvo timing chain. Same is true with decisions. In connection with the possible deal between General Motors Corp. and the Chrysler Group, most critics say this is not the most opportune time to do it.

With the potential acquisition by the world’s largest automaker of another ailing Detroit car manufacturer, thousands of white-collar jobs would be at risk. To sum up, all results would likely wrench and wound Michigan. Detroit’s Big Three would be trimmed to the Big Two; as such, GM is expected to eliminate redundant positions.

People familiar with the GM-Chrysler talks say that discussions are still in the early stages however industry experts are predicting that the pairing of the two Detroit automakers would just bring chaos to Michigan since they have almost similar product lines.

“If the two combine, in my mind, it’s insanity,” Gerald Meyers, a business professor at the University of Michigan, said Monday. “With the exception of their international operations, the companies duplicate each other.” Several economists have said that the possible deal is likely to economists said but it could result in a strengthened U.S. auto industry if more plants are closed to eliminate excess production capacity.

“What Michigan needs at the moment is a strong domestic auto industry,” said Lou Glazer, the president of Michigan Future Inc., an Ann Arbor think tank studying work force and economic trends. “If this gets us there, that’s more important than anything that will happen in the short term.”

Meyers, a former chairman of American Motors Corp., which was acquired by Chrysler in 1987 added, “Whether or not anything comes of the negotiations, Chrysler has been told it’s in play. All 80,000 people [at Chrysler] know they’re not wanted. That has a severe effect, not only on morale but on the whole operation.”

Carl Galeana, president of the Galeana Automotive Group, which has Dodge and Chrysler dealerships, said he felt like a part of DaimlerChrysler. “I’ve always been extremely loyal to Chrysler Corp. and DaimlerChrysler. It’s kind of like being a kid and having your parents talk about getting rid of you,” he said.

GM and Daimler have over 10,000 dealerships in the United States. They employ about 130,000 hourly workers and nearly 50,000 salaried staffers. About 94,000 individuals or nearly 50 percent of their combined work forces are in Michigan. This is the very reason why Michigan would be greatly wounded by the pairing of the auto giants.

David Cole, chairman of the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, said he did not believe a GM-Chrysler combination would affect the rate of decline in U.S. factory workers. He expects that number to keep shrinking. “With or without these mergers, we’ll see continued restructuring,” Cole said. “We have to get better aligned between profitable sales and production. On the other hand, a GM-Chrysler deal is likely to accelerate white-collar cuts. That’s where you get your economies. For instance, you don’t need two economists.”

One of the reasons why critics predict the merger is the battle to make GM far ahead Toyota Motor Corp., its closest rival. “Maybe this is (a) way for General Motors to go from 25 percent share to 39 percent share” of the U.S. market, said John Schenden, general manager of Pro Chrysler-Jeep in Denver, Colo., and head of Chrysler’s national dealer council. “Is this a tactic for UAW (United Auto Workers) negotiations?” he said. “Like I told my people, it’s out of our control. We have to just worry about our day-to-day of selling cars.”

Glady Reign is a 32 year old is a consultant for an automotive firm based in Detroit, Mi. She is a native of the motor city and grew up around cars hence her expertise in the automotive field.

Doctoral Programs Online – Could One Be In Your Future?

The doctoral degree, the highest degree offered in many countries including the United States, is now offered online. It follows a bachelors or masters degree. The amount of time taken to complete the doctoral degree is dependent upon if the bachelors or masters degree is in the same area of study. Two distinct types of doctoral degrees include a professional degree, required to practice in a specific profession, and a research degree. Research degree candidates are required to master knowledge in a broad field and techniques of scholarly research.

In the United States, at least one to three years of study beyond the masters degree is required for the research doctorate. On the average the research doctorate is most often attained after five years of study and research beyond the masters degree in on campus doctoral programs. Additionally, doctoral candidates must pass oral examinations and present a written dissertation based upon their research. The doctoral dissertation is representative of an original contribution to a body of knowledge. The doctoral candidate completes a detailed study of their research problem and presents those findings in a dissertation.

The most important research doctorate is the Doctor of Philosophy which may include specialization in almost any academic field of study. Doctoral degrees representing advanced professional training include doctoral degrees such as Doctor of Medicine, Pharmacy Doctorate, Doctor of Education and Doctor of Dental Surgery. Undergraduate degrees can vary for those obtaining a doctorate in advanced medical training. If you have thought about obtaining a doctoral degree continue to pursue the feasibility of it. Earning a doctoral degree may be quite possible for you. The feasibility of obtaining a doctoral degree has broadened with the opportunity of online education. They are offering many if not all of the courses online. Some programs require face-to-face meetings at the institution with faculty as part of the progression toward planning coursework, research development or writing the dissertation. Course work, including exams, can be completed online at the convenience of the student. This allows job and place bound potential students to pursue their goal of obtaining a doctoral degree without leaving their position or moving. Often the limiting factors in pursuit of a degree are cost and when one can keep working and draw a paycheck as well as avoid moving expenses, somehow the daunting task seems more reachable.

Doctoral programs online or in residence do cost money, there is no doubt. The program of work is only for those willing and able to budget for such a degree. Costs vary from institution to institution so it is good to shop around. It is helpful if the area of study they would like to pursue in the earning of a doctorate degree can be narrowed down. Coach Was Color-blind, He Only Wanted to Know if you Could Play Basketball

Coach Was Color-blind, He Only Wanted to Know if you Could Play Basketball

Glory Road – 2 Stars (Average)

Basketball Coach Don Haskins does not have to wait for his legend to happen. He is a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Few today would remember Don Haskins. He was the coach at Texas Western in 1966 when his 27-1 team played Adolph Rupp’s 27-1 University of Kentucky Wildcats for the NCAA title.

Nothing too unusual about that, except that Haskins would become the first coach in NCAA history to start an all-African American lineup when the Miners squared off against Rupp’s all-white Kentucky team that featured two players who would become well-known in the NBA pro league: Pat Riley and Louie Dampier.

Remember these names: Bobby Joe Hill, David Lattin, Orsten Artis, Willie Worsley and Harry Flournoy during February, Black History Month. They were the starting lineup for Texas Western when the Miners won the NCAA championship against an all-white Kentucky team, 72-65.

I would graduate from Michigan State University two months after Texas Western won the title, and would not be aware of just how historic this event was. My high school and college cross-country and track teams were integrated. Kentucky would not even offer African Americans basketball scholarships, and there were many other colleges and universities which excluded African American players in 1966.

There was a lot of hatred in the South at that time. Heck, there was a lot hatred everywhere, but not in Don Haskins’ will to win for Texas Western, known today as UTEP, the University of Texas at El Paso. Haskins was color-blind and simply put the best players on the floor to compete.

Haskins recruited the best players, nothing else mattered. Not even the lousy treatment and death threats both Haskins and his players received from die-hard, ignorant, bigoted Texas Western boosters and donors. They sing a different tune in Texas today, especially at the University of Texas.

Glory Road in 2006 retold the story of Don Haskins and Texas Western. Josh Lucas played the role of Don Haskins, Derek Luke played Bobby Joe Hill and John Voight played Adolph Rupp.

Glory Road is not one of the best movies ever made, but the story of Texas Western is on par with other great victories in sports history, including the 1980 U. S. Hockey team winning the Gold Medal in the Olympics.

Contrary to the movie version, the title game was not as big an upset as was depicted. Texas Western had an excellent team, as evidenced by its No. 3 ranking the final polls that year. Haskins was not the first coach to play African Americans, Texas Western had African American players on its roster before Haskins arrived.

Haskins was the first to start an all-African American lineup in the NCAA title game, and it is also true that Texas Western was the first college in a Southern state to integrate its athletic teams. Good for Texas Western.

Glory Road had a good message of hope for African Americans. At least one coach had the backbone to play the best. Do not think for a moment that this was Don Haskins’ one moment of glory, and that he was courageous but not an excellent basketball coach.

Since Glory Road was not as much about Don Haskins as some very talented, very tolerant and very brave Texas Western players, let it be known that Don Haskins:

1) Played three years at Oklahoma A&M under Hall of Fame coach Hank Iba and was Team Captain.

2) Was tied for 4th place among the NCAA’s most winning active coaches when he retired with 719 wins and 353 losses.

3) Had 33 winning seasons at UTEP in 38 years of coaching.

4) Led UTEP to no less than 17 20-win-seasons, an NCAA title in 1966, 7 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championships, 4 WAC tournament titles, and 21 postseason trips (14 to the NCAA playoffs and 7 NIT-National Invitational Tournament-appearances).

5) Changed college basketball forever by starting an all-African American team against an all-white Kentucky team in the NCAA tournament and winning the title.

6) Coached Hall of Famer Nate “Tiny” Archibald, NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway, and Antonio Davis, and mentored future coaches Nolan Richardson and Tim Floyd.

Glory Road is a film for every basketball enthusiast. It has a great message and represents a great moment in the evolution of basketball as we know and enjoy it today.

Car Navigation Could Show Available Parking Spots One Day!

Nowadays, it’s very hard to find a parking lot in the city center. Looking for open parking spaces in the city is one of the more teeth-grinding rituals for drivers, but researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey may have hit upon a relatively low-cost solution. They combined ultrasonic sensors with car GPS to create digital maps of available parking spaces for Web-based navigation systems, according to Technology Review.

As much as 45 percent of traffic in Manhattan comes from cars wearily circling the blocks and looking for parking spaces, according to a New York City transportation advocacy group called Transportation Alternatives. That problem has driven cities such as San Francisco to create “smart parking infrastructure” that detects vehicles in parking spots using fixed sensors — a solution that costs 0 for installing and maintaining each sensor.

The Rutgers researchers took a more mobile, low-cost approach by builing a sensor platform based on a ultrasonic sensor that gauges the distance to nearby obstacles, and a 0 car GPS receiver to mark locations. They combined the setup with a PC to transmit the data to a central server via Wi-Fi, and placed the prototype platform on just three cars that commuted through Highland Park, NJ.

Based on data collected from daily commutes of the three cars alone, the team created an ultrasound algorithm to calculate available parking spaces that was 95 percent accurate, and also made digital maps based on the GPS data that were more than 90 percent on target. Such digital maps could then become available to car navigation systems  via Wi-Fi connections or the more widely available cellular modems, and perhaps become part of the traditional GPS setup in cars.

A next possible step could involve outfitting taxicabs or other cars that regularly drive around. The engineers say that they could cover the entire downtown San Francisco area using just 300 taxis for 0,000, compared to the million price tag for just one of San Francisco’s fixed-sensor parking lots. We’ll take that, please, along with our parallel-parking cars.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Tickets – Impressive Turn Around Shows What Could Have Been

Category : Region I

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Tickets – Impressive Turn Around Shows What Could Have Been

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights made an awesome performance in their last six games with the win over Louisville Cardinals as the highest point with the final result at 63-14. Mike Teel, the team’s starting quarterback, may have earned himself a slot in this year All-America team. This placed them in a three-way tie with the teams from Pittsburgh and West Virginia. With that they got an invite from the PapaJohns.com Bowl to go to Alabama even if that may have fallen short of their target.

Despite that achievement, there were still questions of what could have been. The Scarlet Knights had a very powerful set of players which was why it was very hard to take in the fact that they started the season dismally with a measly 1-5.

It took winning over Pittsburgh and South Florida as turning point for them and made them put their acts together. The next thing that showcased their talents was the game with University of Louisville where the Cardinals trailed 49-0 at half-time. That performance showed the whole country how dominant they can be and how cohesive they are. They were not quitters. They fight until the end.

But in retrospect, could they have done more if they started the season right? Would things have come out as they are?

People were speculating. If they started the season with wins, would they have gone on to the higher tiers like the BCS? If they played as superbly as in the last few games, would have they been able to triumph over their fierce rival, the Bearcats and end up with the Championship in the Big East?

If they won more games, would have they been invited to the bigger and more significant bowls instead of that of PapaJohns.com?

There were a lot of intense as well as seemingly bleak moments with the Rutgers Scarlet Knight. There were doubts whether they can make it the in three positions in the Big East despite their powerful line-up. There were even those who thought that they could not even make a pivotal game which would turn the tides in their favor. Who would think that they can still come back from 1-5 start?

They had a good finish at second place after starting so poorly and maybe that is truly remarkable but if they have the potentials and the capacity exhibited by the Scarlet Knight players, then have not really lived up to it. The vast difference in their games at the start and the ones leading to season’s end showed the very big gap which should be noted especially by the members of the team themselves and the coaching staff. There would always be the lingering queries on what really happened at the start and the series of what could have happened if they started the season with a blast.

But then again the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on their latter games were way beyond remarkable, they were downright amazing.
