Many graduating college students worry about health insurance coverage when they graduate college and are job-hunting out in the real world. There are a lot of coverage options for graduates that they may not even know about. The first one is that it is possible that you may be able to continue your college’s health insurance plan, some schools offer extensions on their coverage past graduation. Many schools know that it is very difficult to find a job and coverage after graduating and it is likely that the recent graduate may not be able to afford insurance immediately. If you are covered by your college or university’s insurance plan, you may be able to continue coverage, in order to do this you can contact your school’s registrar’s office and talk to them about possibly retaining coverage post graduation. They may be able to continue coverage for a few months until you are able to get your feet on the ground. For many school’s this type of insurance would be called a continuation plan because it “continues” after college, because in many states specifically Georgia, the rate of uninsured people dramatically increases after college so many Georgia health insurance companies deal with schools to create continuation plans for students.

Another option for graduating college students is continuing on their parents plan. For many students who have been under their parent’s insurance plans through college there is a possibility that you may be able to continue coverage after graduation. Every health insurance company has different rules for this but most Georgia health insurance companies allow a continuation past graduation. In order to find out if your insurance company does this you can ask your provider and get details regarding the circumstances. Also it is important to look very closely at your parent’s plan after graduation because depending on the state you live in your coverage may extend past college, which would require you to seek no additional coverage. Many students and parents are not aware of this in many cases until it is too late and they have already purchased their own insurance plan, which is another thing that graduating college students can do.

Purchasing your own individual health insurance plan is something you can do if you are no longer on your parent’s plan or your schools. When you decide to purchase your own insurance policy you have to look around and see what would be best for you in your situation. In the state of Georgia, health insurance policies can be very inexpensive if you shop around and find the one that meets your personal needs the best. Keep in mind the budget that you have to spend on insurance policy, as well as the flexibility you want with your plan when it comes to coverage.

The Antebellum Trail Shows the Glory of Georgia

Category : Region II

The Antebellum Trail Shows the Glory of Georgia

The Antebellum Trail begins in Athens, Georgia and generally follows Rte 441 South to Macon. In all of the towns along this historic highway are homes built before 1860. Most are in the Federal or Greek Revival style. Some are B & Bs today. Many are still private residences, well restored to their former opulence.

Just a few miles South of Athens is historic Watkinsville. The Eagle Tavern, erected in 1801, houses a small museum and welcome center. The two-story structure was an inn, where the guests slept on the upper floor. Down Rte 15 about six miles is Elder Mill Covered Bridge, built in the 1860s. It is one of the few covered bridges in Georgia, which allows traffic to cross. In order to stop speeders or oversized vehicles from crossing or ruining the bridge, there are metal entrance arches (ten feet tall by ten feet wide) thirty feet from either side of the bridge.

Continued our trip down the Antebellum Trail. We detoured East a few miles to Sparta. Approaching from the North on Rte 15, we descended a hill into the town. Directly ahead was the County Court House. Built in the 1881-1883, the courthouse still functions as the governmental offices of Hancock County (named after John of the Declaration of Independence fame). Notable is the two-story courtroom on the second floor. Sparta is not on the tourist trail, but the courthouse is worth making the detour.

Our next stop is Milledgeville, the Georgia state capital from 1807 to 1868. The articles of secession in 1861 took place in the chambers of the Capital building, presently housing the offices for the Georgia Military College a preparatory and junior college. In a display case are the articles of secession from 1861. On the walls are four large portraits: Washington, Jefferson, Oglethorpe, and Lafayette.

The visitor’s welcome center is in the old post office, directly across the street from the Georgia College and State University quadrangle. The College has a room dedicated to manuscripts and memorabilia of the author, Flannery O’Connor.

Also in the city is the Governor’s Mansion, where General William Sherman stayed during his “March to the Sea”. This build is currently undergoing reconstruction, but is still open for tours. Throughout the city are many antebellum and Victorian homes.

North of Milledgeville twenty miles lies Eatonton, the home of Joel Chandler Harris, author of Uncle Remus and Alice Walker, author of “The Color Purple”. In town is the Uncle Remus Museum housed in a log cabin made from two slaves’ quarters. According to the curator of the museum Harris heard the stories as a young boy on the plantation. As an adult he lived in New Orleans and other cities before settling in Atlanta, where he penned the Uncle Remus Tales. It is possible that besides the stories he heard as a child, he also was familiar the book “Compair Lapin”, the stories of Br’er Rabbit, which were also told at the Laura Plantation.

Putnam County was once a major cotton producer. After the boll weevil epidemic, most of the farmers changed to dairy farming. As you drive through the country, you see herds of dairy cows in the pastures.

North of town, about nine miles is the Rock Eagle Effigy, approximately 5,000 years old. It is one of two stone effigies in Putnam County. The eagle measures 102 feet from wingtip to wingtip and rises ten feet in height. It is constructed entirely of quartz rocks from pebble size to larger than one man can carry. Archeologists believe this to be a religious ceremonial site. A three-story observation tower stands at the head of the eagle for viewing the mound from above..

Understanding The Georgia RV Market

Georgia RV enthusiasts today have a lot of company, with more on the way! As RV adventures continue to become more and more popular with people of all ages, the number of those buying recreational vehicles is skyrocketing! And just who are all these RV lovers?

Breakdown of RV Enthusiasts:

Right now, the majority of GA RV owners are in the 35-49 year-old age range, though several other demographics are starting to get into the swing of RV travel as well. Get ready for some new neighbors on the road! Here come the baby boomers.

The baby boomers, many nearing retirement age, have found that they love the ease of RV travel, the comfort of their own furnishings, and the ability to choose healthy, home-cooked meals while traveling. As Georgia’s baby boomer population reaches new heights, more people are visiting GA RV dealers to purchase their vacation home on wheels than ever before!

Those looking to get into the fun of RV travel in and around Georgia have been broken down into four categories:

1. Families with parents age 35-49
2. Age 35-49 with no children
3. Age 35 and under
4. Age 50-64 empty nesters

Georgia RV Profile–Families with parents age 35-49:

Families with parents age 35-49 are beginning to explore RV travel with a vengeance. The flexibility and convenience of RV with children can not be underestimated. So you’ve spent all day exploring historic sights recommended by your GA RV dealer, and have plans for an evening hike but the kids are tired and cranky?

Snack-time followed by a nap is easy to accomplish comfortably while you’re on the road to your next destination! No more dragging small kids through crowded airport terminals, and no more high-priced convenience snacks at the kiosk by the gate while you wait to board. In an RV, you’ll be able to whip up healthy and inexpensive snacks whenever you want. Even with gas prices rising, a family of four will spend much less tooling around GA and the Southeast in their RV than they would on 4 full price plane tickets!

Georgia RV Profile–Age 35-49 with no children:

The second group of new RV and Georgia travel trailer enthusiasts includes those 35-49 with no children. They’re learning to love RVing because of how easy it makes it to travel to their latest motorbike or ATV competition. Ultimately, they’re looking to enjoy sporting events and athletic activities, and have tapped into how cost effective it can be to travel without worrying about constant meals out and hotel rooms.

Georgia RV Profile–Age 35 and under:

A third group of new RV converts is the younger crowd; those under age 35 are one of the fastest growing segments in the RV market. For many of the same reasons the other groups are enjoying RVs, so are these under-35 drivers! Cost effective, comfortable, flexible and easy are the hallmarks of an RV adventure which appeal greatly to this new generation of enthusiasts.

Georgia RV Profile–Age 50-64 empty nesters:

The final group of recent recreational vehicle drivers is the 50-64 year-old crowd of empty-nesting nature aficionados. For them, the RV’s ability to provide a luxurious and comfortable stay as they navigate scenic areas of the country that are new to them is priceless. In the past they’ve enjoyed traditional camping, and find that time in their RVs allows them to strengthen relationships as well as sight-see.

With RV owners now numbering approximately one out of every twelve US households, RVing is becoming a fairly commonplace pastime. A recent study from The University of Michigan indicated that recreational vehicle travelers will continue to increase, reaching an all-time high of 12 million by 2010. With all the nearby RV destinations in the Southeast, Georgia RV owners are sure to become a large portion of that number. If you’re ready to join the ranks of those enjoying the flexibility and comfort of their own RVs, a Georgia RV dealer will be able to discuss your goals and lifestyle and help you find the RV that fits you best.

David Porter is the owner of Three Way Campers, a Georgia RV dealer. As a GA RV dealer he also has an interest in the Georgia travel trailer industry.
