Resveratrol – Activate Your Anti Aging Gene With Anti Aging Vitamins. Look and Feel Younger Now!

by: Barbara L. Minton, citizen journalist

(NaturalNews) A wealth of new study findings continue to underscore the wonders of resveratrol, the compound discovered only a few years ago that has already achieved superstar status. Discovered predominately in red wine, grapes and peanuts, resveratrol is now showing to significantly impact the aging procedure, regulate for good cardiovascular function, and protect against and reverse cancer.

Newest Research Finding
Researchers at Zhejiang University in China investigated the effect of injections of resveratrol on the central regulation of blood pressure, center rate, and renal sympathetic nerve activity in animals. Their outcomes suggest that resveratrol powerfully inhibits blood pressure, center rate, and renal sympathetic nerve activity. This study has tremendous implications for anti-aging therapies.

Resveratrol is able to mimic the results of rigorous calorie restriction in a number of cytoskeletal maintenance and multiple tension response pathways. This effect is accomplished by control of mitochondrial biogenesis and turnover, critical factors in the maintenance of energy production, the prevention of endogenous oxidative tension, and the promotion of healthy aging.

Prior study has revealed the wholesome advantages associated with daily caloric restriction of between 30 and 50 percent below what is considered these days as average. These benefits also occur as the result of fasting. Such diets have been linked to reduction in the danger of age linked illnesses and stress, along with a slowing of age related functional decline. In a prior study, this study team discovered that consuming resveratrol improved the health and survival of obese mice, even although they continued to consume a higher calorie diet plan. Resveratrol showed to have the same positive impact on the livers, muscles, hearts and bones as calorie restriction. Resveratrol has also been shown to extend the lives of yeast, worms, flies and fish.

About Resveratrol
Resveratrol’s most abundant source is the grapes used to make red wine, with the highest concentrations being discovered in the skins. Red wine contains approximately 160 micrograms per fluid ounce. Substantial amounts of resveratrol are also found in peanut kernels, with one ounce of peanuts containing about 73 micrograms, the amount also contained in 6 cups of red grapes. It is a component of Ko-jo-kon, an oriental medicine utilized to treat diseases of the circulatory program, heart and liver. Since wine is the most notable dietary source, it is the primary object of speculation and study on resveratrol, even though wine contains numerous other compounds with biologic effects.

Resveratrol’s components as an antioxidant and anti-cancer agent are rapidly becoming documented, and it is sometimes referred to as an explanation for the “French Paradox”, the low incidence of center disease in the French population who eat a relatively high fat diet plan. In grape and peanuts plants, resveratrol’s role is antibiotic and component of the defense program.

Other Documented Effects
Results from numerous study studies have shown resveratrol to be protective against the oxidation of LDL cholesterol in the blood. It is this oxidation of LDL that initiates the deposition of cholesterol in the walls of the arteries that can lead to center attack. Its hydrophilic and lipophilic properties can provide much more effective protection than other well-known antioxidants, such as nutritional vitamins C and E.

Research at the University of Illinois in Chicago using resveratrol extracted from grapes discovered that the threat of cancer was reduced in animals when the compound was used to stop the growth of damaged cells. Had these damaged cells been left to grow, they would have become out of control, resulting in cancer.

The Peanut Institute has concluded that the finding of resveratrol in peanuts might support epidemiological studies from Loma Linda University, Harvard School of Public Well being and University of Minnesota that show peanuts might reduce the danger of center illness by more than half when eaten frequently in small amounts.

Ought to You Supplement With resveratrol?
Research on resveratrol is just beginning to reveal its array of well being advantages, and many extracts of resveratrol are appearing on the marketplace that make adding it to your diet plan very simple. Probably the best choice is to add a glass of red wine or peanuts to your diet plan. Both red wine and peanuts have been proven to provide extremely substantial overall health advantages. The consumption of red wine is an integral component of the Mediterranean diet, discovered to be extraordinarily health promoting. It is in red wine and peanuts that resveratrol is discovered in nature, suggesting that this is how nature intended for us to consume it. When any compound is component of a whole food, it is a part of a complex of balanced compounds that give it an integrity not discovered when it appears as an isolated extract.

Got Sunshine? Take a New Look at Vitamin D

Got Sunshine? Take a New Look at Vitamin D

If you thought bone fractures were the only risk of vitamin D deficiency, think again. It is well known that vitamin D is needed to process nutrients like calcium and phosphorus – essential for maintaining healthy bones and muscles. But new research suggests that an insufficient amount of vitamin D in the body may also play a role in a multitude of serious medical conditions, from colon cancer to multiple sclerosis.*

According to a recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers are also looking at how vitamin D may help in decreasing the risk of many chronic illnesses, including common cancers, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and cardiovascular disease.**

Where do people get vitamin D?

• Exposure to sunlight

• Foods such as oily fish, like salmon and tuna

• Foods fortified with vitamin D, like milk

• Dietary supplements

Why do some people have vitamin D deficiencies?

The body stores vitamin D in fat cells and releases it as needed. With most people working indoors, many people are not getting sufficient stores of vitamin D from sunlight alone. Many diets do not include enough fish and fortified foods, exacerbating the problem. Plus, research suggests that previously recommended doses of vitamin D supplements may not be adequate.

How do I know if I’m getting enough vitamin D?

If your doctor suspects you have a vitamin D deficiency, he or she may recommend a simple blood test to check your level.  If you have concerns, talk to your doctor.

What do I do if I learn I’m vitamin D deficient?

If testing reveals an insufficient level of vitamin D, the solution needs to be worked out between you and your doctor. Remedies may include a change in diet, the use of dietary supplements, or a combination of the two. Any increase in exposure to sunlight should be discussed with your doctor due to the risks of skin cancer. Decisions about whether or not to take supplements, what kind, and how much will depend on factors such as one’s age, lifestyle, eating habits, overall health, and the presence of any medical conditions.

The Arms Race in the AFC East Takes on a New Look

Category : Region I

The Arms Race in the AFC East Takes on a New Look

The quarterback position has always been the most important position for any NFL team. Having a confident field general is essential for any team that wants to go deep into the playoffs. Nowhere is that more evident than in the AFC East.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have dominated the division since Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe three games into the 2001 season. Now the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills are all trying to find that diamond in the rough like the Patriots did when they selected Brady in the sixth round of the 2000 draft.

Daunte the Dolphin

Miami is coming off a 9-7 season and has some quality skill position players. The Dolphins’ biggest problem the last few seasons has been at quarterback. Miami has had immortals such as A.J. Feely, Jay Fielder, Gus Frerotte and Sage Rosenfels taking snaps in the last three seasons.

Now the Dolphins think they’ve solved their problem. The Dolphins traded for former Minnesota QB Daunte Culpepper and former Detroit signal caller Joey Harrington this off-season to sure up their weakness. The problem is, both QBs are huge question marks. Chances are, Miami will be searching for answers at the QB position again this season.

Culpepper will be the starter if he’s healthy. The 6’4”, 260 lb veteran was in the midst of his worst season as a pro when he suffered a catastrophic knee injury during the seventh game of the 2005 season. He had thrown just 6 touchdowns and 12 interceptions at the time of his injury. The season before, however, Culpepper was an All-Pro as he tossed 39 TDs and just 11 INTs while posting an impressive 110.9 quarterback rating. He would have been league MVP had it not been for Peyton Manning’s record-breaking season.

Back-up Plan

Culpepper is optimistic that he’ll be done with rehab and ready for the start of the season, but that’s wishful thinking. Miami will probably open the season with Harrington at the helm and that could leave the Fins in a big hole right off the bat.

The former University of Oregon star has never fulfilled the promise of being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft. Despite having talented wide receivers and running backs around him, Harrington floundered in his 4 years with the Lions, throwing two more interceptions than touchdowns while leading the Lions to just 18 victories in 51 starts.

The Dolphins have another intriguing option in their camp: Marcus Vick, the troubled younger brother of Atlanta QM Michael Vick. The odds are better that Vick will be in police custody rather than a Dolphins uniform come September, but if Nick Saban and the coaching staff can find a way to keep Vick on the field, he could offer Miami some insurance in case Culpepper and Harrington falter. Vick will most likely be made into a wide receiver anyway, but he could end up being used in several roles similar to the original slash, Kordell Stewart.

Still Searching

The Jets and Bills continue to look for answers at the QB spot as well. New York’s QB job is up for grabs as incumbent Chad Pennington missed most of last year after undergoing rotator cuff surgery. Pennington has a history of injuries and may never be the same after his latest setback. The Jets also acquired veteran Patrick Ramsey in a trade with the Washington Redskins in March. Ramsey has been a disappointment in Washington where he lost his job to Mark Brunell last season.

New York’s best hope may be rookie Kellen Clemens. Clemens was having a stellar senior season at Oregon before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. He has good size, speed and quickness, and could be the quarterback of the future that the Jets have been looking for.

Buffalo, on the other hand, has done nothing to upgrade its weakness at quarterback. The Bills had a terrible draft and will go into the season with Kelly Holcomb and J.P. Losman vying for the starting job again. Neither are a very attractive option and the Bills look to be going nowhere again.

The Standard

In order for Miami, New York or Buffalo to make the playoffs, they will have to go through New England. The Patriots look to be even better than last season, having drafted running back Laurence Maroney and wide receiver Chad Jackson to add to Brady’s arsenal of weapons.

The Patriots are still the kings of the AFC East and are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl again. Should the Patriots regain the championship, it would be their fourth Super Bowl in six years and will cement their place as one of the greatest dynasties in the history of the league.

You just look awful!

You just look awful!

Me in my YELLOW OUTFIT in Texas Stadium-U.S.A.

My friend Julie and I traveled from Fayetteville, Arkansas to Dallas, Texas (U.S.A.) one weekend to see our dear friend R.J. (a running back), and the University of Arkansas Razorbacks play Southern Methodist University in football (American football that is).  Both Julie and I were very fashion forward and got all dolled up for the game.  Julie wore a stunning, haute fitted black skirt and white boyfriend blouse cinched at the waist with a wide black belt, black pumps, sterling silver accessories, and hot pink-high sheen-lip gloss.  She looked fabulous.  I had just bought a cutting edge matching skirt and top.  The ensemble was bright mustard yellow, and had wide fitted cuffs at the wrists, hips, and long hemline.  Some black opaque tights, black ankle boots, black bag, multiple bands of clinking gold bracelets, huge gold hoop earrings, Urban eyeliner, Shaper in the hair, Wayfarers on baby, and voilá-ready to rock and roll.  Julie and I both felt full of pizzazz and elegance as we parked in the sprawling lot at Texas Stadium (where the Dallas Cowboys played at the time).  Grabbing our bags and tickets, we began walking toward the mammoth arena feeling unstoppable.  About 20 yards from the entrance to the stadium, while surrounded by dense crowds of eager football fans, my chic companion and I, and everyone within a two-mile radius who was not hearing impaired, were jolted by the following diatribe:  “Hey, you in the yellow!  Hey, I’m talking to you in the yellow outfit!”  Thoroughly confounded, everyone started looking around to see who was yelling at the top of his lungs.

‘Wait a minute…my outfit is REALLY yellow…is he yelling at me?’

The entire crowd glanced up and saw the source of the commotion.  It was coming from a guy, whom I had never laid eyes on before in my life-at least that I remembered.  He was already inside the stadium and was hanging off the second level walkway looking directly downward at me.  “Yeah, you in the yellow, you just look awful!  That outfit is horrible!  You look terrible!  You need to go home, you look so bad!”

Julie was the most fiercely loyal friend you could ever have.  She had these great big gorgeous blue eyes, long curly blonde hair, was five feet inches tall, and barely 100 pounds of pure whoop ass.  I once saw a 250 pound bouncer remove her from a club because she was trying to break a beer bottle over a brass banister.  As any savvy co-ed would, she was trying to fashion the empty glass container into a weapon to wield in a barroom brawl, which was brewing over some sort of misunderstanding involving dance partners, I believe.  Julie is now a Stay Home Mother with two adorable children, a loving Husband, and a precious dog.  Who would have guessed?

Upon hearing the very public excoriation of her friend, Julie instinctively threw down her purse on the steaming black asphalt (so that she could have both of her tiny hands free for whatever fisticuffs might have been imminent-obviously).  She began screaming at my mysterious fashion critic “Why don’t you come down here and say that ya DICK?!  You’re pretty tough all the way up there!  Come on and bring it on down here asshole!”

‘What is going on?  I’m so confused.  Am I stoned?  Because I feel stoned.’

Just in case anyone had any ambiguity left about his true feelings concerning my choice of attire, Mr. Blackwell let loose one final salvo “YOU JUST LOOK LIKE SHIT IN THAT YELLOW DRESS!!”  This was the point where he lost all credibility-any true fashionista/o would have instantly recognized my outfit as a skirt and top, not a dress.

“Ill-mannered poseur!”  ‘That’ll show him.’

By this time, I was deeply mortified.  It was obvious to everyone around that this guy was screaming at me.  Seeing how yellow my outfit was, there was little doubt about whose clothing had offended him so.  Total strangers were coming up to me saying “Honey, I think you look nice,” or “What did you do to that guy?”  Then the coup de grâce, a guy I went to high school with, and hadn’t seen since, walked up and asked, in a very sincere, slightly panicked tone-as if I had an open artery gushing blood-”Are you Okay?!”

‘Fairly humiliated, but Okay.  Classes are going well.  You?’

Years later when I was working in Psychiatric Research, I told my colleagues this story over lunch one day and asked the Spanish Psychiatrist for whom I worked “Why do you think that guy might have done something like that?”  Thinking his clinical response would be something along the lines of ”Well, it ees quite likely that his Mother was wearing a bright, mustard yellow colored blouse the last day that she breast fed heem.”

The good Doctor who had devoted his entire adult professional life to the study of the human mind and behavior-with great acumen, I might add-replied “I dohn know!”

Lori Culpepper Dinsmore

There is a psychiatric/psychological diagnosis called “Folie a Plusieurs,” which is a French phrase literally meaning “Madness has Several.”  This disorder was first discovered by French Psychiatrists, thus the French name.  The illness may occur when people are so enmeshed with each other they actually adopt the psychosis or psychoses of their companions.

The imagery which the phrase~Madness has Several~evokes, for me, is simply enchanting.

This is my portal into my own folie and joy.  I am a Stay Home, HomeSchooling Mother to a ten year old Human Boy, a four year old Bloodhound Boy, and a six year old retired racing Greyhound Boy.  My Husband (also a Boy), Jonathan, and I have been married nearly 15 years.  They are my treasures.

Here is my lens for the epoch we share-past and present.  These are my hopes, ruminations, and of course, delirious thoughts…but what always burns most vividly is the beautiful laughter.

Hold on tight to la folie avec moi mon pretties.

Online Universities: an Inside Look

Online Universities: an Inside Look

As online college courses increase in popularity, online college courses are a rapidly growing segment of the nation’s higher education curriculum.  In fact, over one-fifth of the higher education population of students is taking at least one online course, that is, 3.9 million students, in the fall of 2007, and this number was a 12% increase over the previous year (Staying the Course, Online Education in the United States, 2008, I. Elain Allen and Jeff Seaman, Sloan-C.org).  By the fall of 2008, it was expected that almost 2 million college students will be attending school without leaving home.  How do they do this?  By attending online universities…

Online Learning at Online Universities

When you pursue a degree at an online university, you take all of the classes required to get a degree entirely online.  In online learning, sometimes referred to as E-learning, teachers mostly use computer-based technologies such as video streaming, e-mail, or other technologies over the Internet to teach material to their students.  Online college students rarely attend school campuses because almost all, if not 100%, of their studying is done online.  Keep in mind that online universities may or may not have a local campus, but that should not deter you from believing the college is a reputable university; just make sure that the university is accredited by an outside accrediting agency such as Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges.  A great way to check accreditation is to visit the U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

What To Expect From Online Universities

As mentioned above, when you attend an online university, you will be taught over the Internet via e-mail, video streaming, or other online technologies.  While some perceive this teaching method to be impersonal, it is quite the contrary.  The quality level of online teaching is equivalent to the quality level of face-to-face teaching methods on campus. Some would even argue that the quality level of online teaching instruction is higher because an online student would have constant personal interaction with the through e-mail or online chat rooms whereas students that attend college classes at a campus-based university may be in a class with 300 other students.

With online universities, you can also expect to avoid travel costs, parking fees and the convenience and flexibility of studying on your own time.

A Wide Array of Degree Options From Online Universities

Is the degree you want to pursue unavailable at your local community college or university?  If this is the case, there is no need to move to a new city with a college or university that does; just pursue your degree online.  More and more online universities are increasing their program availability to cater to the needs of every student.  From art and design, business, and engineering, to criminal justice, education, and social science, almost every degree imaginable is available at an online university.  With hundreds of accredited online universities offering accredited online college degree programs, you can pursue just about any specialty you desire.

Online Universities: The Wave of the Future

With the economic downturn, more and more students are expected to attend an online university.  Though rising fuel costs may no longer be a factor, students have realized the benefits of attending an online university.  With the convenience, flexibility, and wide range of degree programs, student enrollment at online universities continue to excel.  Don’t get left behind!

How To Make Your Breasts Look Bigger

How To Make Your Breasts Look Bigger

How To Make Your Breasts Look Bigger

Having a well-filled breast is almost every woman’s dream. In a society like ours where having big breasts is adored and given such emphasis, it is not surprising that every flat-chested woman desires to be well-endowed. Various breast enhancement products have come to the forefront that promise to give fuller breasts. But there’s no proof that they really work. If these estrogens were powerful enough to be effective, the creams wouldn’t be available over the counters, notes Seth Matarasso, M.D., an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. No pill can safely increase your breast size, says Kelly Shanahan, obgyn and author of Your Over-35 Week-by-Week Pregnancy Guide. While nothing short of surgery will make your boobs look like that of Pamela Anderson’s, there are less invasive options that can make a difference. Here’s the ultimate guide to beautiful breasts at any age.

1. Exercise

Okay, so exercise won’t add inches to your breasts. Breasts are largely fatty tissue and there’s no exercise to grow fat. But exercise can make your breasts sit higher and more even on your chest because it builds up pectoral muscles directly below the breasts. This pushes the breasts outward giving them the appearance of being a bit larger. If you strengthen your back muscles, you can also improve your posture and make your chest look a hundred times better. Try to do the following exercise everyday to increase your breast size naturally and to firm them up

a. The Push-ups

This will help keep your chest muscles firm and toned. To do this, put your hands and knees on the floor with your back flat. Align your hands with your bust. Bend your arms and lower yourself until your chest almost touches the floor. Then push yourself back up to the starting position. Hold this pose for a few seconds and then bend your arms again bringing your torso down a few inches to the floor. Repeat this ten times. On the second week, perform two full sets of ten repetitions. And on the third week thereafter, do three full sets every other day.

b. Modified Push-ups

This is akin to the push-ups mentioned earlier. The only difference is that instead of the hands and knees on the floor, the lower arms, the elbows and toes are placed against the floor. The torso is raised up but your lower arms and elbows and toes are kept on the floor.

c. The back extension

Back extensions strengthen your upper and lower back muscles, thus improving posture. To do this, after each set of push-ups, lie facedown on the floor, lift one arm and the opposing leg a few inches straight in the air simultaneously, and hold on for a count of ten. Do the move twice on each side.

d. Bench Press

This is the best exercise for shaping and firming your bust line because aside from shaping and firming the bust line, it also sculpts the shoulders and tightens the triceps. To perform this exercise, lie flat on a bench, with one foot on each side of the bench touching the floor. Firmly press your head, shoulders, back and butt on the bench while sticking up your chest. Keep the dumbbells about 18-20 inches apart and parallel to the floor with your palms facing upwards. Slowly push the dumbbells straight up, away from your chest. Fully extend your arms but don’t lock your elbows when arms are fully extended. The dumbbells should now be approximately a few feet above your chest. Pause slightly at the top of the movement then slowly lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position. Inhale and hold your breath as you lower the dumbbells. When they reach the chest, begin to move the weight upward again. Exhale as you pass the point of greatest resistance. Repeat this 8 to 12 times to complete one set. You can perform about 1 to 3 sets at a session and about 3 sessions per week with a day’s rest between sessions.

e. Breast Press

Using two three-to-five pound dumbbells, sit on the edge of a chair with your back straight, arms at your sides. Lean forward slightly at your hips, and bend your elbows to 90 degrees, keeping the palms down. Raise your arms from the shoulders so your elbows reach shoulder level, your hands in front and to each side. Hold this position for a count of four, and then return to your start position. Repeat this ten times.

f. Arm Swings

While standing erect, swing your right arm clockwise for eight counts while the left arm rests at your side. Then let your right arm rest at your side and swing your left arm clockwise also for eight counts. Repeat this exercise on both arms only this time the movement is counterclockwise.

g. Stand-up Push-ups

Stand facing a wall at arm’s length. Place palms on the wall. Push against the wall as if you were pushing it away, without bending arms at the elbow. Hold for eight counts and relax arms for eight counts. Repeat this eight to twenty times a day.

h. Apply Pressure

Massage the upper and outer area of your bust in circular motions applying gentle pressure. This helps stimulate circulation on the muscles and help tone the fatty tissue of the breasts.

2. The Perfect Boosting Bra

If your boobs appear sacked out on your rib cage or distinctively lopsided, maybe the problem is your bra. You’ll get the sexiest support if you look for the following features

a. Supportive cups

If your breasts are saggy, they’ll sit in the bottom of the sheer cup, says Stacey Ellis, a bra-fit specialist for Nordstrom. Look for a bra with lined cups that are slightly firm to touch.

b. A firm, solid back

Flimsy cotton and lace may not be strong enough to pull your breasts up. A bra with a wide, tightly woven back will help hoist you up in front.

c. Underwire

Underwire bras give a good lift to your busts because they provide good support underneath. Just make sure the wire surrounds the breast tissue and is a perfect fit to your breasts otherwise you’d be uncomfortable to wear them.

d. Padded bra

Padded bras don’t just make your breasts appear bigger but they also provide added protection to your breasts from accidental nudges in public and crowded places.

3. Nutrition

Nutrition is one of the factors that influence the growth of breasts. How you look reflects the things that you put in your body. If you want your breasts to look good, I recommend you exercise healthy food choices. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Women with poor diets tend to have smaller breasts while women who are overweight tend to have larger breasts. Also add Til or sesame seeds in your intake. They are known to be effective in firming the breasts of women because they contain calcium, protein, iron and phosphorous. The oil also can be applied on the breast to make it look less droopy.

Although having well-filled breasts makes a woman feel more confident about herself, the lack of breast tissue does not make her less than a woman. Beauty is not gauged on breast size alone. The truth is, most women look pretty in their own ways. But one of the biggest things that makes a person attractive is a positive attitude towards oneself and other people. People are easily drawn to women who exude such compelling influence, no matter what size of breasts they have. So, if you wanna attract more people, don’t just focus on having bigger breasts and wanting what you don’t have, instead work your way up with your self-esteem. At any rate, you will realize that you will be happier with a bigger self-esteem than a bigger boobs.

Do the move twice on each side.

d. Bench Press:

Increase Your Breast Size Naturally

2. The Perfect Boosting Bra

If your boobs appear sacked out on your rib cage or distinctively lopsided, maybe the problem is your bra. You’ll get the sexiest support if you look for the following features:

a. Supportive cups

“If your breasts are saggy, they’ll sit in the bottom of the sheer cup,” says Stacey Ellis, a bra-fit specialist for Nordstrom.

Increase Your Breast Size Naturally

A Look at Austin Texas

A Look at Austin Texas

It’s not the largest city in the country. It’s not even the largest city in Texas, but that doesn’t mean Austin is lacking . . . in anything. As the third fastest growing large city in the United States, Austin is thriving with history, industry and, most importantly, realty.

History

What today is Austin was at first named Waterloo and was originally home to a number of Native American tribes, such as the Tonkawa, a nomadic group who used the area as one of their many stops throughout the year. Plans to turn Austin into a city more European than Native American did not develop until the 1830s. And even then, it was not until 1839 that Austin was truly established and became Texas’ capital.

The city began with a promising start, but a severe population drop in the 1840s offset the region’s initial growth spurt. Months into 1841, the city was home to only 200 people. In 1842, the title of capital was taken from the dwindling city and given to Houston. But three years later, when Texas was annexed into the United States, that wrong was righted, albeit on a temporary basis. And in 1872, Austin was permanently selected as the Lone Star’s capital.

From there, Austin had nowhere to go but up. And up it went. Austin quickly established itself as a legitimate metropolitan, building the Texas State Capitol, creating a reputable public school system, and bringing higher education and booming industry into the region. Today, it houses politicians, businessmen, students, musicians and scientists. It is safe to say that Austin is a far cry from the barely populated town it began as.

Economy/Jobs

Much of the industry in Austin is technology based. The steady flow of graduates from the University of Texas at Austin feed the growing need for employees as technology and science continue to develop, branching out into new, untapped territories. Dell, IBM, Motorola, the University of Texas and the state itself employ most of Austin’s citizens. However, there is no lack of other corporations. Everything from Google to Whole Foods has a base in Austin.

This trend of budding corporations finding a home in Austin does not look to end soon. Commercial, pharmaceutical, and state and local possibilities arise every day. Even as the nation’s economy teeters, Austin’s remains strong, allowing for more jobs, more work and more people.

Real Estate

Just as the economy is strong, real estate is strong. While sales have slowed recently, they have not stopped. The price of living compared to the price of houses is more than appealing, particularly when compared to surrounding areas and metropolitans. New buildings and developments are plotted, begun or finished nearly every day. People are rushing into Austin for homes and offices at startling rates.

To make matters even better, Austin has established itself as one of the greenest cities in the country, mapping the course for green construction, alternative means of energy and environmental friendliness. It is working on becoming an urban area that both respects and takes part in saving the ecosystem.

It is a city that may have begun as a temporary dwelling for nomadic tribes but is now one of the best places to live in the United States, let alone Texas.
