Music critics praised the song as some of Rihanna’s best vocal work to date, for the romantic nature of the song, as well as its sexual tones. There were some negative criticism towards Drake’s lyrics although, which included a sexual innuendo about the square root of 69. “What’s My Name?” was a commercial success, topping the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, giving Rihanna her third number one single of 2010 (out of four), as well as her eighth of nine Hot 100 chart topper. It also became Drake’s first number one single. The song was also particularly successful reaching the top five in France, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland and the United Kingdom.
An accompanying music video, directed by Philip Andelman, incorporates a romantic encounter between Rihanna and Drake in a grocery store along with romantic scenes between the pair and Rihanna walking through Manhattan’s Lower East Side. “What’s My Name?” was also promoted with live performances across both sides of the Atlantic, including Saturday Night Live in America and the series seven finale of The X Factor in the United Kingdom, though the latter performance resulted in an investigation from the British media regulator (Ofcom) for the raunchy nature of Rihanna’s outfit.

Without music life would be a mistake.

Stubbs Restaurant Event Tickets – Austin Lives Up To Its Name As The Live Music Capital Of The World This May!

Stubbs Restaurant Event Tickets – Austin Lives Up To Its Name As The Live Music Capital Of The World This May!

Austin, Texas doesn’t take its title as the Live Music Capital of the World lightly! Austin is home to over 200 live music venues, and you’d better bet that they are always bubbling over with eclectic live performances and packed crowds. This May in particular sees a batch of internationally touring artists stopping in Austin on their respective road trips.

Stubb’s Restaurant is one of Austin, Texas’ most beloved live music venues, and chanteuse Norah Jones will be performing a pair of dates at Stubb’s on May 1 and 2, joining a laundry list of eclectic acts that have stopped there over the years. Jones is in the midst of a 36-city tour in support of her latest album, The Fall, her fourth studio set. Jones launched her tour in Tulsa, Okla. on March 5 and will stop in cities scattered throughout the States and Canada this spring and summer. Fans with Stubbs Restaurant event tickets from StubHub.com can hear Jones perform songs like her hit single “Chasing Pirates” off The Fall when she stops in Austin.

After Norah Jones continues on from Austin on tour, Stubb’s Restaurant will host Blue October on May 8. Hailing from Houston, where the eclectic rock band formed in 1996, Blue October is currently on the road in support of their fifth studio album Approaching Normal, and fans will be flocking to the see the band perform in their home state. Blue October worked with Grammy-winning producer Steve Lillywhite (known for his work with U2) for their latest album, which is the follow-up to the band’s platinum-selling 2006 album Foiled, Blue October’s breakthrough album. Dubbed the Pick Up the Phone Tour, Blue October’s trek seeks to raise awareness of mental-health issues and benefit suicide-prevention services, according to Live Daily.

The University of Texas at Austin sits just north of downtown Austin, and in addition to Longhorns fans, the campus is packed with entertainment venues. The Frank Erwin Events Center at UT is one such venue, and one of country music’s leading ladies, Carrie Underwood, will stop there while on tour on May 8. Underwood kicked off her tour in support of her third album Play On in Reading, Pa. on March 11 and will remain on the road-with opening acts Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia in tow-until June 20, when she wraps things up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The American Idol winner is nominated for the coveted Entertainer of the Year honor at the upcoming 45th annual Academy of Country Awards, to be held on April 18, and is also planning her wedding to hockey star Mike Fisher. It’s a wonder she can find time to tour, but fans are happy she has!

The drive from Austin to San Antonio, the most-visited city in the Lone Star State, is definitely worth it! Aside from historical gems like the Alamo and La Villita, one of the first Spanish settlements, San Antonio is famous for the San Antonio River Walk. The River Walk snakes its way through central San Antonio along the San Antonio River and is lined with galleries, restaurants and shops. Built in 1929, San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre has remained a top venue and pillar in the South Texas city ever since. The Majestic will host Celtic Woman for two shows on May 2. San Antonio is known for its cultural diversity, and this tradition is continued when the Irish quintet comes into town. The female-powered phenomenon is on tour in support of Celtic Woman, Songs from the Heart, and fans of the talented lasses will be turning up to see them perform in San Antonio.

Jacques Marquette was born in Laon, France, on June 1, 1637 and joined the Society of Jesus at age seventeen. After working and teaching in France for several years, he was dispatched to Quebec in 1666 to preach to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, where he showed great proficiency in the local languages, especially Huron. In 1668 Father Marquette (French: Père Marquette) was redeployed by his superiors to missions farther up the St. Lawrence River in the western Great Lakes. He helped found a mission at Sault Ste. Marie and at the Mission of the Holy Spirit in La Pointe, on Lake Superior, near the present-day city of Ashland, Wisconsin. Here, he came into contact with members of the Illinois tribes, who told him about the Mississippi River and invited him to teach their people who mostly lived further south. Because of wars between the Hurons at La Pointe and the neighboring Dakota people, however, Father Marquette had to relocate to the Straits of Mackinac; he informed his superiors about the rumored river and requested permission to explore it.

Blazingwear is the new name in artistic fashion

Category : Region III

Blazingwear is the new name in artistic fashion

As a reflector and writer of the Seattle arts scene, I have the unique opportunity to see people who are completely imerssed in their passion for art. For a few moments I am able to enter their worlds and get a taste of the uncommon. Today, I have the privilege of talking with my longtime friend Aaron Kren. Aaron Kren is new to the Seattle art scene, but he is no stranger to art. A 2001 graduate of Wayne State University’s art program, Aaron is just beginning to unleash the artistic vision that has been building within him since the time he was a child.

“I always wanted to create something new and unusual,” confides Aaron, his eyes tilted toward the world of imagination, “I learned art by drawing what I saw around me, but, as I progressed through my formal training, I wanted more and more to create something that you wouldn’t see in nature, something familiar, yet unfamiliar at the same time.”

It is true that Aaron’s new collection of artistic t-shirts does contain elements of realism, but some of the real gems of his collection feature designs and surrealistic landscapes that are far from ordinary. And that brings me to Aaron’s newest canvas of choice – the common t-shirt. I asked Aaron what the motivation was for printing his art on t-shirts.

“Besides the obvious economic reasons,” said Aaron, “I liked the idea of printing artistic designs on something as accessible as a t-shirt. Art is often heralded as high and out of reach – it is displayed in ‘no touch’ zones called museums. Printing art on shirts brings it into your life on a whole new level.”

Aaron’s collection contains shirts that are sure to appeal to people of varying artistic tastes, a reflection of Aaron’s own appreciation for diverse arts.

I asked Aaron what his most popular t-shirt design is. It is a simple design with the phrase “press on.”

“I got the idea while at church,” Aaron says, “I had this image come to mind of the words press on, and it depicted a struggle. While the words are trying to pull away, there are organic chords trying to keep it back. It really is a picture of the challenges we all face and the need to press through them.”

For a peak at the entire collection of Aaron’s t-shirts, visit Blazingwear.com.

The Texas State Dinosaur Gets A New Name

Category : Region IV

The Texas State Dinosaur Gets A New Name

For about a decade, the Texas state dinosaur has been designated as the Pleurocoelus, an enormous sauropod that reportedly roamed the Texas Hill Country millions of years ago, leaving behind an extensive fossil record in the central Texas area. Recent paleontological research, however, indicates that the dinosaur bones previously identified as belonging to Pleurocoelus may actually be the fossilized remains of an entirely new species of dinosaur. The new species, dubbed Paluxysaurus jonesi after the owner on whose land the new fossil evidence was discovered, is apparently unique to Texas and is of equal mass with the Pleurocoelus, which was originally discovered in Maryland in the late 1800s.

The new evidence was uncovered by Southern Methodist University (SMU) graduate student Peter Rose, who was studying the bones in the course of pursuing a master’s degree at the university. SMU was analyzing the fossils in conjunction with congruent studies at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and Tarleton State University; paleontological digs took place at the Glen Rose site near Fort Worth. The new species is classified as a brachiosaurid, making it part of the sauropod family. The dinosaur’s unique status was determined by analysis of a leg bone, which exhibited unusually width at mid-shaft, and characteristics of vertebrae, teeth, and various other limb bones.

Paluxysaurus jonesi would have been an enormous four-legged herbivore supporting a small head on an elongated neck and weighing approximately twenty tons. The dinosaur roamed throughout Texas during the Cretaceous Period approximately 112 million years ago. It has never been found outside Texas, and recent research indicates it is the source of the majority of dinosaur fossil remains found in the Glen Rose dig. Four separate individuals have been identified within the dig, which also contains petrified logs from the same era.

As a result of this research, Texas State Representative Charlie Geren introduced a resolution in January 2009 intended to change the name of the Texas state dinosaur from Pleurocoelus to Paluxysaurus jonesi to more accurately reflect the species found in the Texas area. Geren represents the Fort Worth area and gained state-wide recognition for his efforts in unseating Republican Speaker of the House Tom Craddick, who had served in this role in the Texas House of Representatives since 2003 and was replaced in 2009 by a more moderate Republican from the San Antonio area. Geren was a vocal opponent of Craddick since Craddick’s support of school voucher programs that would have reduced funds for public schools throughout Texas; Geren is credited with helping to oust him from the Speaker position.

The resolution is intended to correct the public record and gain attention for this dinosaur unique to the Texas area. Texas has long been noted as a center for paleontological studies; three separate geologic time periods are represented in various excavations throughout the state, making it an invaluable resource for paleontologists and researchers. Geren’s resolution is a valuable step forward not only for the accurate depiction of the Texas state dinosaur, but for the field of scientific study and paleontological research throughout Texas.
