Ncaa Basketball- Marquette Defeats St. John In The Second Day Of The Bet

Coming from a victory against the University of Connecticut on the first day of the Big East Tournament Bracket, the University of St. John left everyone speechless in its game against Marquette on Wednesday. St. John was defeated 57-55 in a game that it was winning until the very last minutes.

St. John proved – in most of the second day – that it was a very strong team, setting a game rhythm that evidenced the players’ skill. But the team had a rough start. The first half was a little messy, giving Marquette enough space to take advantage of St. John’s mistakes.

The first half ended with Marquette ahead 27-17, demonstrating the Storm’s lack of concentration. But as the second half started, things slipped into place for St. John players, who began to set the rhythm they needed and whose offense began to work together as a team.

Marquette has been having one of its best seasons ever. The team has an overall record of 20-10 and a Big East record of 11 wins and 7 losses. Coming in as the fifth seed, Marquette has the skills and talents needed in the second round of the Big East Tournament bracket.

Marquette games have a tendency to be full of incredible tension, as the team has won 12 of its last 19 conference games by 3 points or less; 6 of the last 7 have been in the second round of the Big East Tournament.

The last time Marquette faced St. John, in New York, the team won in overtime 63-61 with a Jimmy Buttler shot in the last minute. It was the Golden Eagles’ 11th straight win over St. John.

Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams said he was very pleased with the result of the most recent game, and particularly, the way his players were working together. Next they will have to focus on a game against Villanova, on Thursday. The fourth-seeded Villanova has defeated Marquette in their last two matches, but the Golden Eagles still have hopes of winning the game and making a second straight semifinal appearance.

It has not been easy for St. John’s head coach, Norm Roberts, to face being ousted in the quarterfinals again for the sixth straight year. Rumors circulate that the defeat against Marquette may yet cost him his job. As he walked to the press conference, his face said everything.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well in the first half, but we came back,” Roberts said. “We just talked about make the extra pass, make one more pass— they do a great job of rotating in the first half and making the ball stick in our hands a little bit. I thought the guys did a good job of making the extra pass in the second half.”

Roberts has been deeply criticized for not signing some of basketball’s best prospects. He simply hasn’t won enough games.

For now he is waiting for the worse, as many say that it’s about time for St. John to look for a fresh new start and hire a new head coach.

Quickly rising the ranks of the Big East Conference, the Cincinnati Bearcats defeated South Florida University Thursday night 34-17. The team, ranked at 8th, continues a long winning streak at the Raymond James Stadium. Despite the absence of its starting quarterback – Tony Pike left the field with an injury to his left wrist in the third – the Cincinnati offense remained solid. The Bearcats took two touchdown passes from Pike before he left the game. Pike was then replaced by backup quarterback Zack Collaros, who played brilliantly to add two more touchdown passes and secure the victory for the Bearcats. Pike, coach Brian Kelly explained, was playing with a plate and six screws in his left forearm, which he broke last season. Kelly said that the plate had shifted and that Pike would be examined by a specialist on Friday, but that the quarterback would not be able to play during the next home game against Louisville on October 24th. Pike threw three touchdown passes 8 yards to Armon Binns in the second quarter, helping the Bearcats to a 17-10 halftime lead over South Florida. He also threw a touchdown pass for the 16th consecutive game; he is 12 of 25 for 140 yards without an interception. The South Florida Bulls responded quickly to Pike’s absence. BJ Daniels threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jessie Hester, and then closed the Bearcats’ lead to 24-17 late in the third quarter when safety Nate Allen intercepted a bad pass by Collaros to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Daniels. Collaros, a freshman quarterback, then took the lead on a six-play, 70-yard scoring drive that gave Cincinnati a 14-point lead. But another big play – a 43-yard completion pass for Ben Giudugli – ended in confusion. Officials reviewed the play and decided that his elbow was down at the 1. The ball moved back to the 16, and although South Florida made a pass interference penalty on the third down, Collaros scored a 3-yard run. The score moved to 31-17, and Collaros finished with 132 yards rushing on 10 carries. “He’s a gamer. He’s a competitive kid,” Coach Kelly said of Collaros. “He’s athletic, and we did what we had to do with him in the game, and that was obviously run him, control clock, play good defense and get out of here with a win.” Cincinnati has had a more than solid season. The team boasts one of the best offenses in the country and appears unstoppable. And it has been – unbeaten this season, the Bearcats are one of the toughest teams in the Big East Conference. South Florida, on the other hand, has been suffering from on-and-off seasons in the past years. In 2007, the team began with an incredible 6-0 record, a start that pushed them to No. 2 in the conference. But three losses later, the team dropped out of the Top 25. 2008 brought a similar performance: South Florida was 5-0 at the start of the season, but then the team lost four of its next five games, dropping out of the competition. But coach Jim Leavitt has promised that his players are facing a new season; they will regroup from the Cincinnati loss and begin preparing for next week’s game against Pittsburgh. Presume the players will be spending time watching videos to learn from their mistakes against the Bearcats.

NCAA Football 10: PS3, XBox 360 Players, Ready or Not, Here It Comes

NCAA Football 10: PS3, XBox 360 Players, Ready or Not, Here It Comes

NCAA 10 Football Rosters is highly anticipated by football video game fanatics because of the all-new features of the game. It is expected to be out in the market by July 14th of this year and as early as now, fans have been frantically talking about it in forums. They’re all excited to see what’s in it for PS3, 360 and PS2.

The upcoming video game has great features like “create a school” where a gamer can skillfully create his own team. The new added feature was briefly shown during EA Sports’ New York City press event. Everyone present was clearly impressed. Its entirely different from games made in the past where gamers are given the option to create their own players. This NCAA 10 feature is entirely separate from the actual game. The tools are released as applications in EA Sports World site a month before the actual game will be released. Access to the application is through teambuilder.easports.com.

Create-a-School first came out in NCAA Football 2000 and was available for the PS2 version in the NCAA Football 2003. Year after year, fans waited for the feature to get better and better. Finally, with the 2010 version, fans can get what they want with the feature called TeamBuilder.

Once created, the teams or schools can easily be downloaded into the Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions of NCAA Football 2010. It can be used at Dynasty, Play Now, and Online Dynasty.

The NCAA Football 10 covers are exciting enough. The Xbox 360 cover is graced by Michael Crabtree, formerly form Texas Tech University. He is a highly-acclaimed football player who grabbed the Biletnikoff and Paul Warfield Awards twice. He led Texas Tech in the race for BCS National Championship in 2008 as he showed his powers as a wide receiver.

Brian Johnson of the University of Utah is found in the cover of PS3. Johnson led the Utah Utes undefeated victory in the NCAA Division I team in 2008 with a 12-0 record at the 2009 Sugar Bowl.

The PSP version, on the other hand, shows the former quarterback of the University of Southern California, Mark Sanchez. Sanchez was the key player who led the Trojans in an almost perfect 12-1 season, nearly making it to the 2008 BCS National Championships. He was also the Most Valuable Offensive Player during the 2009 Rose Bowl.

The PS2 cover showcases Brian Orakpo, a first-team All American and was the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Orakpo won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Lombardi Award and the Ted Hendricks Award.

2010 Ncaa March Madness Final Four Updates & Schedules

2010 NCAA March Madness Final Four Updates at Online Betting: The most exciting part of the game is about to happen because as of the latest basketball game matches at the NCAA Men’s Division Basketball Tournament 2010, the so-called Final Four is finally completed. The final slot was filled after Duke University beat Baylor University with 78-71. The Championship game is just around the corner, after the Final Four sets foot on the hard court next week for the second to the last showdown to determine who will face who.

So which 2010 NCAA basketball teams have reached this far? Last night, we already know that two teams of the Final Four Bracket are already filled up with two of the basketball games held last Saturday, March 27, 2010.

Butler University and West Virginia are two of the early settlers in the 2010 NCAA Final Four basketball team beating their previous basketball game matches against Kansas State and Kentucky, respectively.

Duke is the only number one seed to make it to the Final Four this year. The is their debut. It was an exciting game. A deadlock with 3 minutes remaining in the ballgame. A missed Baylor free throw was converted into three points and since then, Duke led the game until the end.

Mike Krzyzewski and team are excited to head back to the NCAA Tournament Final Four. Duke will play West Virginia in the Final Four next weekend. Michigan State will face Butler University. March Madness 2010 is coming to a close, the NCAA National Championship game will be held April 5, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The final two will be decided on April 3.

Ncaa Football – Kiffin Named New Head Coach for Tennessee

Ncaa Football – Kiffin Named New Head Coach for Tennessee

The University of Tennessee announced this Tuesday on a press conference that Lane Kiffin was selected as the new head coach for the Vols. He was hired to substitute Phillip Fulmer since his contract got to an end and this past Sunday it was the last game he coached; which was a victory against Kentucky, after 17 years of being Tennessee’s head coach.

Kiffin was former Oakland Raiders Head Coach, but was fired 2 months ago. He was the youngest coach at the age of 31 in NFL’s history when he was hired back in 2007.

He signed a six year contract deal for million with the chance of additional benefits. He was hired after the University of Tennessee made a national research for a head coach for the first time in their history and this way he becomes the 21st coach in Tennessee’s history and only the third coach in 32 years.

At his young age, Kiffin has already plenty of experience in the football world as he’s being involved in it since he was a child around his father, the NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, and he started his coaching career in football nine years ago, right after graduation. “The experience has been unbelievable and then to combine that with still being young enough to be able to relate to recruits and be able to manage them and handle them, I think is very valuable,” said Kiffin on Monday when he has presented as the Tennessee’s new coach.

Kiffin has also a lot of experience in recruiting players since he worked for the University of Southern California under the charge of Pete Carroll, and they both had then one of the best recruiting programs in the country. They used to recruit the top talented players and tried to keep them happy in the team, and that is one of Kiffin’s more important goals for Tennessee, he wants to give the top talented players playing at Tennessee a reason to stay and keep them from going to play anywhere else as he wants the top players to win championships for the University of Tennessee.

Kiffin also expressed that he has met with some returning players and they are all very excited to start a new program with plenty of opportunities, he also explained that the roster they had before him was pretty good but they can still improve it. According to him, spring is going to be very important for returning players, they will have very competitive practices and they will have to show what they can offer to the team. This will be combined with new talent that will come and will be set together for next season.

Former Coach Fulmer was criticized by the way he managed the recruiting of new players, since it was a little unstable, players came and went and some others that where on a list for recruiting had stated they rather go to any other school than Tennessee. Nevertheless, Kiffin said that he admired Coach Fulmer very much since he is a legend in NCAA football. He also added that Fulmer did a very good job during the 35 years that he spent with the franchise and that will not criticize the way coach Fulmer worked and by the contrary, he will keep doing some of the things the way he did them or will improve them.

All of the Tennessee hopes are now set on coach Kiffin, the fans and the players are waiting to see the results on this program, which apparently will be one of the best in the country.

NCAA Basketball Tickets – A Bulldog for a Night

NCAA Basketball Tickets – A Bulldog for a Night

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was on my feet, leaning heavily to one side, trying to urge Gordon Hayward’s half-court heave into the hoop with every ounce of body language I had in me. I let out an audible “Oh!” as the shot nearly banked in, then slumped into my couch as if I’d been shot in the gut. It was a horrible feeling, brought on by that fleeting moment in which I thought Hayward’s shot was destined to cement Butler’s place in the history of collegiate basketball. I had not expected to be so affected by the outcome of this game.

I’d come into the national title game between Duke and Butler thinking I’d root for the Bulldogs a little, as they were big underdogs, but I was largely indifferent concerning the outcome since my bracket had been decimated in the early rounds of the tournament. But as the second half wore on, I found myself vehemently rooting for the Bulldogs as if Butler were my alma mater. I gradually became aware of how great of a basketball game I was witnessing. This is what NCAA basketball tickets are all about, I thought.

The Bulldogs kept the game close despite a second half that was essentially one big offensive drought; they couldn’t buy a bucket from the floor. Hayward, Butler’s best player, struggled from the field in the contest, hitting just two of his 11 attempts on the night, but did everything he could to will his team to victory down the stretch. The 6-foot-9 forward repeatedly got to the free throw line in the waning minutes of the game, hitting critical shots and keeping the Bulldogs alive in the process.

The last 10 minutes of the contest were filled with the feeling that inevitability was about to take over. Duke constantly seemed to be on the verge of pulling away, the giant finally about to overtake their inferior opponent, but the scrappy Bulldogs just wouldn’t let it happen. The Blue Devils had all the advantages, size, talent and coaching, but the Bulldogs refused to let the game slip away. With Duke ahead by two and about seven seconds remaining, Hayward got a decent look at a fade-away jumper from the baseline, but put a little too much on it to get it over the seven-foot Brian Zoubek. Zoubek came up with the rebound and was immediately fouled, putting the center on the line with less than four seconds to play. He hit the first free throw and intentionally missed the second, setting the stage for what nearly became the most famous moment in the history of college basketball.

Hayward came up with the rebound, sprinted to half court and put up a prayer. Butler’s tournament run had been a storybook to that point and the entire college basketball world held its collective breath as they awaited the dénouement. The shot nearly went in; if it had, it would have been the biggest shot in the history of the game, dwarfing all moments of heroism that preceded it. Butler had nearly slain Goliath, but Hayward’s slingshot was just a bit off target. This modern day David, with all the Hoosiers parallels surrounding them, had almost done the impossible. A win against Duke would have elevated the Bulldogs to territory occupied, in my opinion, only by the 1966 Texas Western Miners.

One has to give credit to a Duke team that was largely overlooked when the tournament began, thought by many people to be a number one seed essentially by default. The Blue Devils had underachieved throughout much of the season, as did the ACC as a whole, but this group hit its stride when it mattered most. They won this game the way they’d done so for the entire season, on the shoulders of Kyle Singler, Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith. Duke didn’t score a single bench point in the title game, but it mattered not. Their talented trio and dedication to defense enabled them to come out on top.

What I’ll remember about this championship game, though, is not Duke’s win, but Butler’s valiant effort and Hayward’s near miss. While I didn’t know anything more about Butler University when this tournament began other than the fact that it was located somewhere in Indiana, I found myself rooting my heart out for the Bulldogs by tourney’s end. It was one of the most exciting basketball games I’ve ever witnessed, and I felt as though I was a genuine fan of the Butler Bulldogs, even if for just one night.

Ohio State Buckeyes – Tracing The 22 NCAA Titles Of The Buckeyes

The best team they have comes from their gymnastics and swimming team. The rest of teams, despite not being consecutive champions, still are doing well as runner ups.

NCAA Championships is one of the most awaited events in every college team. It is a national title wherein the best of the best from different divisions and states are named. Some of the Big Ten Conference Division are able to make it on this important event while some are not. However, the chances of joining are big since there are many sports sanctioned by this organization.

The most popular sports for this event are football, basketball and baseball. If you look at the track record of the different teams, some might take years before they get their next Championship Titles. Others can do it consecutively but could end up periods of drought. Well, it is quite expected as different teams evolve every year and different players with strong skills and abilities emerge. Not to mention, the coaches of the teams vary and they have different strategies. Some may contribute to their winning streak others just settle for division titles.

The Universities of the Big 10 Conference have their many chances in joining the different NCAA Championship Matches. One of them is Ohio State University. They have won a total of 22 NCAA Titles. Their varsity team is named as the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Out of curiosity, let us try to trace their achievements in NCAA. Below are their records and years that they have won their 22 National Titles from NCAA:

Swimming Team

Their swimming team for men has the most records of NCAA titles for this event. They accumulated a total of 11 titles since 1943. Mike Peppe was the coach in 1931-1963 who led the team to win these 11 titles. He was ranked number one to coach the most titles for the NCAA and Ohio State was one of the teams to win the most titles in a year (for the years 1953 and 1955).

Gymnastics

Their team for men was the winner of the NCAA championships in 1984, 1990 and 2001. They have produced 24 NCAA individual champions under the supervision of Miles Avery. In 2001, Jamie Natalie was the All-around champion.

Golf

The division for men won the NCAA title in 1945 and 1979. In 1945, this varsity team grabbed their first gold under the supervision of Robert Keppler. The second title was under Jim Brown. Both coaches are now in the hall of fame for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Track and Field, Fencing, Baseball and Basketball

Each of these teams grabbed one NCAA title. Track and field gained the title under the coaching of F.R. Castleman. One of the notable players at his time was George Simpson, who was a champion for both 100 and 220-Yard Dash. Fencing team became National champion in 1942. Their baseball team won in 1966 under the coaching of Marty Karow. On the other hand, their basketball team won in 1960 under the coaching of Fred Taylor. Jerry Lucas was one of the top players at that time and he helped the team to win the title.
