Background On “30 Seconds To Mars” And Where To Catch The Next Tour

30 Seconds to Mars was created in 1998 by Jared Leto and his brother, Shannon, and it really just started as a small family project. Things began to speed up quickly, however, and Matt Wachter later joined the band as bassist and keyboard player. After a small revolving door of guitarists (as the band’s first two guitarists, Kevin Drake and Solon Bixler, left the band due to issues primarily related to touring), the three auditioned Tomo Milicevic to finalize the band’s roster.

According to an interview from Virgin Records, the band’s name “actually comes from a thesis that [the band] found online [that] was written by a former Harvard professor. And one of the subsections of the thesis was titled ‘thirty seconds to mars’ and he goes on to talk about the expediential growth of technology that relates to humans and saying that we are quite literally thirty seconds to mars. What it means to us is, we thought it best described our music, in short.”

Although Jared Leto is a Hollywood actor, he originally preferred not to use this information to promote the band; in fact, the band used to refuse to play at venues that used his fame to promote shows.

30 Seconds to Mars’ first, self-titled album, produced by Bob Ezrin, was released in 2002 to mixed reviews and achieved sales of just over 100,000.

The band’s second album, A Beautiful Lie, was released on August 30, 2005. For this effort, the band traveled (during the course of three years) to four different continents, including five different countries, to perfect their sound and also to allow for Jared’s film career. The album was produced by Josh Abraham, whose producing credits also include Orgy, Velvet Revolver, and Linkin Park .

Because A Beautiful Lie was leaked five months before its release, the band decided to include two bonus tracks: “Battle of One” (an original song that was also set to be the album’s title track when it was first announced) and “Hunter” (a cover of the Björk song of the same name). To further promote the album, the band also enclosed “golden tickets” in 12 copies, which grant their owners access to any 30 Seconds to Mars concert free of charge, along with backstage access.

On August 31, 2006 the band won the MTV2 Award for “The Kill” at the MTV Video Music Awards, one of their two nominations. The second nomination was for best rock video; however, they lost to AFI’s “Miss Murder.” The music video is loosely based on the film The Shining. A Beautiful Lie was certified platinum by the RIAA in January for distribution of over 1,000,000 albums.

In October, the band began the “Welcome to the Universe” tour, sponsored by MTV2. 30 Seconds to Mars were supported on this tour by Head Automatica, The Receiving End of Sirens, Cobra Starship, and several other bands including The Street Drum Corps. On November 20, MTV2 premiered the video for “From Yesterday”; the video is the first American rock video ever shot in its entirety in the People’s Republic of China .

As of Spring 2007, the band is supporting The Used as a part of the Taste of Chaos tour and have scheduled a string of dates in Europe supporting Linkin Park .

30 Seconds to Mars are also scheduled to play Roskilde, Rock am Ring, Pinkpop, and Download festivals; on April 29 they will perform at the AVMAs for which they have been nominated for three, and will then begin working on their third album.

On March 1, 2007, bassist Matt Wachter announced his departure from the band live on stage during the band’s El Paso , Texas Taste of Chaos set. This was confirmed the following day with a statement on the band’s website.  He has since been replaced by Tim Kelleher (not the actor), who has been seen playing at the band’s concerts. It is unknown if this is a temporary or permanent change.

On May 2, 2007, the band has announced that “A Beautiful Lie” had won and would be the next single.

On July 21, 2007, it was announced that 30 Seconds To Mars had won second place in the Jabra Music Best Band in the World contest, based on votings around the world. 30 Seconds To Mars will be going on a concert tour soon. It is suggested that you buy your 30 Seconds To Mars concert tickets from a ticket broker to get great concert seats.

Houston’s Luxury Real Estate Market: What’s Next

Houston’s Luxury Real Estate Market: What’s Next

Houston’s luxury real estate market has always been strong; however, the last year has proven challenging for this select Houston real estate market, as many homebuyers have begun scaling back their purchases. So, what can we expect now?

Many industry experts have noted that the Houston luxury real estate market is already showing positive signs of turning around. Inventory appears to be running low; new construction is on the rise; and many agents in Houston’s best luxury real estate firms have been meeting and/or exceeding their sales goal for the last four to five months.

A Shortage in Inventory?

Houston real estate – particular the high-end real estate market – may even see a shortage by the end of the year in terms of real estate inventory.

The high-end Houston real estate market certainly has seen its share of challenges; it was one of the last markets to be hit during the recession; however, it was also one of the markets that suffered the worst during of the recession. As a result, the luxury Houston real estate market was one of the last markets in Houston to show signs during the latter part of last year.

By the end of the fourth quarter of 2009 the luxury Houston real estate market began to show signs of recovery; and by the first of the year, the luxury real estate market was going full steam ahead.

Consumer Confidence Driving Sales

Among other things, the Houston real estate luxury market has been driven by consumer confidence.  Even those homebuyers who were not experiencing the worst of the economy in 2009 held onto their money because they simply didn’t know what was coming next. As the stock markets improved, so did consumer confidence and, of course, the luxury market.

In addition, many industry analysts predict that 2010 will be a great year for Houston because of job growth. Many, major companies are now moving into Houston because of the positive job climate.

Home prices for luxury real estate in Houston is also falling slightly as more homeowners recognize that being realistic is a must if they expect to sell their home. As a result, many of the luxury homes on the market are selling in a reasonable amount of time.

New Construction and the Luxury Market

New construction for luxury real estate is also on the rise, and the upper end of the market is showing particularly good signs of recovery. As a result, many real estate experts are not concerned about selling luxury homes; they are concerned about the lack of inventory. In fact, many experts foresee a low inventory by year’s end. One of the major concerns is that there appears to be a shortage in new construction.

This year Bell voted the best football player for Harlon Hill in Division II and hopes to be picked in the nfl draft next spring.

Bell, The 6-foot, 217-pound, senior running back from Wayne State University is projected by scouting experts to be between the 18th and 23rd running back taken in April’s NFL draft.

Bell believe his success at the combine will be to improve his 40-yard dash time very well, currently listed at 4.54.

“I’ve run 4.4’s before, but that time listed on most internet sites is a combination of times,” explained Bell, who has hired an agent (Manville Trice) and a personal trainer (Thomas Weatherspoon) to help prepare him for what lies ahead.

Todd McShay of Scouts Inc., who writes for ESPN.com lists Bell as the top small college running back in this year’s NFL Draft.

Bell ran for 2,084 yards and 29 touchdowns this nfl season. He also caught 23 passes for 293 yards and three TDs.

At the end of the Division II season, Bell led all four NCAA divisions in rushing yards per game (189.45), scoring (17.5 points per game) and all-purpose yards (217.5 per game). He was also named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He is a four-year all-league selection and finished his career with 6,728 rushing yards, sixth best in Division II history and eighth best in NCAA history for all divisions.

Bell scored 576 points in his career which ranks fourth in DII and fifth in NCAA history.

His 8,055 all-purpose yards is fourth in Division II and ninth in NCAA history. In addition to his individual records, he led Wayne State to its best four-year win total since the class of 1978.

Bell said he was recruited by Michigan State and Louisville but both wanted him to play defensive back.

PTU to have online exams from next academic year

PTU to have online exams from next academic year

Punjab Technical University (PTU) is planning to conduct its examinations on-line from the next academic year.

Talking to The Pioneer at Cordia Institute of Business Management at Khamanon on Saturday, Dr Nachhatar Singh, registrar of the University said that there were around 3.75 lakh students of the University and conducting examination of them required man power at a large scale. Besides this, process also consumed lot of time, he said, adding that the on-line examination would enable the university to announce the results without any delay.

Replying to the question regarding the poor image of the University in academic fields, the registrar said that the basic reason if it was the unplanned expansion under which 288 study centres were granted to facilitate the students enrolled. Besides, the University had not required staff to deal with the academic affairs so now the academic staff was being recruited to bring the university back on its lines before the beginning of the coming academic year, informed the registrar.

Nachhatrar Singh said that now the target of the university was to quality education not the quantity of students. He disclosed that they had written to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) not to allow opening of the new technical colleges. It is worth mentioning here that during the recent past 45 per cent seats in Engineering courses, 25 per cent in management institutes and 75 per cent seats in Pharmacy colleges remained vacant so there was no logic to open other such institutes.

He further said that it was the need of the hour to change the present syllabus to meet with the changing requirement of the industrial world so the university had involved the CII to develop the syllabus of the courses.

The Registrar admitted that most of the study centres were not able to facilitate the students by providing them good academic environment. He informed that the University was considering a proposal under which the study centres would have to conduct classes on specific days and organise personal contact programmes also.

He said that at the time of grating extensions, the University would also ensure the location of such centres at appropriate places.

Nachhatar Singh said that instead of much focusing on the high profile courses the University was going to develop courses for self employment.

 2. Which course should I select?

Most of us select a course which is of high demand, and this course is a high premium course because majority students got placement during the last academic year. By evaluating the record of the placement generally parents and students select a course. But method of selecting a course is totally wrong. Because the job market is based on demand and supply function. A particular course which has huge placement requirement may lose its fame in the future, and our ward is not going to be in the placement process today or this year rather three to four years from today. We should see what course shall be of high demand when my ward is going to complete the course and not on the record and information about the present situation. For instance three to four years before the premium course where IT. But today the same courses have less takers. Thus we should select a course which will have huge demand in future.
