Alternative Media Companies Take Advantage of Opportunities

New York City’s Times Square is possibly the center of the universe when speaking in terms of outdoor advertising. As in years past, New Year’s Eve 2009 brought together some of the biggest brand names and, as usual, out-of-home advertising was the star of the show. 2009′s celebration led sponsors to get a bit more creative and optimistic (not to mention frisky) in an economy that saw much more pessimism and stagnation than in years past. From confetti wishes and kissing stages to wind-powered digital billboards, it was truly a sight to see.

At midnight, Times Square was raining hopes and dreams – literally. One popular candy brand’s newest candy bar sponsored a website for people to submit their resolutions, goals, and hopes for 2009. The website was set up during the weeks leading up to the new year where people could submit their wishes. The messages were then printed on tiny pieces of paper and dropped over Times Square at midnight, showering New York City with over a ton of wish-covered confetti.

Echoing this upbeat tempo, a soda company’s new ad campaign focused on youthful optimism that blanketed the billboards of NYC.  The campaign created uplifting words out of the brand’s redesigned logo.  As part of the NYE festivities, the company unleashed one thousand balloons (complete with their new logo, of course) on Times Square, minutes before midnight.

The best use of technology by an alternative advertising campaign was to utilize the camera-equipped cell phones of the millions of celebrators across the nation. The campaign encouraged partiers to send in their cell phone pictures. Approved pictures were then sent to a massive, 19 by 34 foot tall digital display in Times Square.

The innovation and preparedness continued for the inauguration of 44th president of the United States of America. It was obvious to advertisers that the event would provide a perfect platform for companies to reach millions of Americans with their own messages of change. A car company turned the opportunity into a road trip, beginning in Detroit and ending in Washington, D.C. just in time for the inauguration.  A caravan of new, hybrid vehicles carried the theme of change to D.C., making stops at Ohio State University, Penn State University, and Howard University.

Mirroring Obama’s own message of hope and optimism, one company created a massive presence at the inauguration with messages of change and unity, residing on the city’s billboards, buses, etc.  In another out-of-home tactic, street teams handed out commemorative buttons, hats, and scarves that flaunt those same messages of hope. The result was a well monitored, integrated campaign taking advantage of multiple types of alternative advertising and guerrilla marketing strategies.

Dentist Harrisonburg VAHow long does it take for dental implants

Best Dentist in Harrisonburg and Winchester Virginia tells How long is it going to take to place dental implants?

Hi my name is Dr. Jeff Dickson with the Shenandoah Valley Implant Institute. A frequently asked question among our patients is, How long is it going to take to place dental implants?

This is a very good question and the answer is it varies. What is most important for you to consider is how long has your periodontist been placing dental implants? How much experience do they have? How much training do they have? The most important item to consider is what type of technology are they using to place this implant?

Technologies such as CAT scans and guided surgery can significantly decrease the time in placing a dental implant. We can actually do the implant planning behind the scenes using our state of the art dental facility in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We can have you in and doing the implant very quickly, and have you eating at your favorite restaurant immediately after the procedure.

How long does it take to place a dental implant? It can take as little as five minutes or it can take as long as an hour if you do not utilize this technology. So therefore, I would recommend you checking with your dentist to see if they have that type of technology or they know somebody who does in terms of a dental specialist.

Dr. Steven Saunders, Dr. Victor Saunders and Dr. Jeff Dickson have one of the very few offices in the United States that house an on-site laboratory to create teeth for their patients. This rare combination allows these dental implant specialists to perform an emergency dental implant and have their patients leave with a tooth the same day

Got Sunshine? Take a New Look at Vitamin D

Got Sunshine? Take a New Look at Vitamin D

Got Sunshine? Take a New Look at Vitamin D

If you thought bone fractures were the only risk of vitamin D deficiency, think again. It is well known that vitamin D is needed to process nutrients like calcium and phosphorus – essential for maintaining healthy bones and muscles. But new research suggests that an insufficient amount of vitamin D in the body may also play a role in a multitude of serious medical conditions, from colon cancer to multiple sclerosis.*

According to a recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers are also looking at how vitamin D may help in decreasing the risk of many chronic illnesses, including common cancers, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and cardiovascular disease.**

Where do people get vitamin D?

• Exposure to sunlight

• Foods such as oily fish, like salmon and tuna

• Foods fortified with vitamin D, like milk

• Dietary supplements

Why do some people have vitamin D deficiencies?

The body stores vitamin D in fat cells and releases it as needed. With most people working indoors, many people are not getting sufficient stores of vitamin D from sunlight alone. Many diets do not include enough fish and fortified foods, exacerbating the problem. Plus, research suggests that previously recommended doses of vitamin D supplements may not be adequate.

How do I know if I’m getting enough vitamin D?

If your doctor suspects you have a vitamin D deficiency, he or she may recommend a simple blood test to check your level.  If you have concerns, talk to your doctor.

What do I do if I learn I’m vitamin D deficient?

If testing reveals an insufficient level of vitamin D, the solution needs to be worked out between you and your doctor. Remedies may include a change in diet, the use of dietary supplements, or a combination of the two. Any increase in exposure to sunlight should be discussed with your doctor due to the risks of skin cancer. Decisions about whether or not to take supplements, what kind, and how much will depend on factors such as one’s age, lifestyle, eating habits, overall health, and the presence of any medical conditions.

Kids of All Ages Take to the Streets with a Razor Ultra Pro Scooter

Scooters aren’t just for kids anymore and the Razor Company is here to take care of everyone. Their Razor Ultra Pro Scooter is the scooter of the ages as both kids and adults can utilize this durable, stylish two-wheeled ride. This kind of transportation means one less car on the road, and makes getting from here to there a whole new experience.

The original Razor Scooters took the world by storm as they started to appear in record numbers soon after their introduction. The design is one of the most recognized out there today and its popularity continues to climb. No one can resist what the Razor has to offer.

Mini Scooters Aren’t Just for Kids Anymore

For some time only people of somewhat smaller proportions could zip around on the Razor Scooter, but now the Ultra Pro model is here to suit people larger sizes. With a heavy duty, welded aluminum frame and multiple handlebar size options, adults can utilize all the benefits of this amazing scooter.

Adults may not want to do the crazy tricks that the kids do on their Razors, but they do want to take advantage of their efficiency and portability.

As gas prices, insurance fees, maintenance costs and those ever-annoying fines make car travel a very expensive form of transportation, the Razor Ultra Pro can really help alleviate the financial burden. For the price of a tank of gas, this Razor will get you to the subway, bus or store with ease. Don’t worry about getting in people’s way once at your destination, the Razor Ultra Pro folds up into a small package and is easy to carry.

A New Class of Razor Wheels

The Razor Ultra Pro has become extremely popular amongst students and it makes getting around campus a breeze. Bikes are often targeted by theft when left outside of classrooms and usually aren’t allowed inside of class buildings. Razor Scooters go wherever their riders go so there is less likelihood of them disappearing.

Keep Movin’ with a Razor Scooter

Kicking around on a scooter will get the body moving, and who couldn’t use a little more exercise these days. Using about the same amount of energy expended during a light jog, you can go greater distances on a Razor. Head out to the local market, pharmacy, or bank on your Razor. Maybe doing a ton of laundry isn’t an option, but tackling any of those other errands you need to do in the neighborhood certainly is.

If hopping on a Razor has been your ambition and you are tired of watching the kids fly around on them, it is time to take part in the action. The super affordable and exceptionally durable Razor Ultra Pro Scooter will take all the abuse you can dish out and still be there to carry you where you want to go. Keep yourself active and fit while you save time getting around. Convenient for the student on campus or business commuter, scooters are the hip solution for travel.

Fake, Please Do not take!, this Cake!!

Category : Region II

Fake, Please Do not take!, this Cake!!

I was lying down on my bed, reading when a clamour in the next room disturbed my concentration. At first, I could not make out the reasons. But as I listened more carefully, the case became clearer. My elder brother and mother were at loggerheads over an issue, common for us. Centuries old topic of partiality had triggered the disagreements.

Brother, who is few days away from joining his post graduation at Bangalore had landed in a fight at his office. His one day’s salary was cut on account of his supposedly ‘absence’. However, he had gone to office but had forgotten to sign the attendance register. Shocked by this, he went to enquire about the matter. The senior officer seemed indifferent to his pleas. He, at once became furious over this behaviour. But it isn’t the only reason what had fuelled the fire. His counter-parts belonging to the so-called higher castes, who had several times committed the act were never even, raised a finger at.

This unfortunately isn’t the first time. Since childhood, I have heard numerous events relating such harassments. As a matter of fact, I have myself, experienced ethnic harassments.

Being an introvert by birth, I always had a hard time in adjusting to external environments.  Even during school days, I had to take a lot huge efforts to mingle with new people. However, it is an irony that I am a non-stop chatter in familiar surroundings. Now, taking you back to the original topic, I must describe my experience of racial discrimination.

During my high school days, there was this man in the lab who clearly was partial towards small eyed ‘chink’ people. Though I had the least idea about the real reason of behaviour, the apparent being my appearance. He deliberately used to give the broken test-tubes to the tribal students. And in the face of distribution of the salts, ‘we’ were the last persons to get it and that too, coupled with the distasteful look of his face. The high school being my critical period, as I lived in constant fear of my career, it added to my woes. I always maintained extra-caution so that I do not end up breaking the equipments. Tons of thanks to the Good Lord that he had invariably stood by me.

And trust me; with the passage of time, this fear was overshadowed by the one, which I faced throughout my academic year of the high school. I practically had no friends. Most of the time, I would just sit on a bench alone. Everytime I tried to raise my hand for friendship, I was shown the back. Those were the ‘Dark days’ of my life. By God’s grace, the last year of my high-school was much more comfortable as I grew closer to a friend. We shared a common predilection for Japanese animations and never felt tired of discussing them. As mental happiness was a pre-requisite, it came to me in the form of the universal bond of friendship. It helped in maintaining my sway on the academic life.

I do realize that my piece of the humongous cake of racialism is almost negligible, but this thought has never lessened the taste. And also, who can tell, may be there is more to come.

I am a person who is currently under severe mental stress and gaping for some air of bliss.

Why you should take the time to research and find a top pediatric dentist in Carlsbad

Why you should take the time to research and find a top pediatric dentist in Carlsbad

Why should you visit a Pediatric Dentist for your child’s unique dental health needs?

Thank you for reading this article, what follows is the result of great research put together as valuable information for our readers.

Did you know that not all dentists are alike? According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), pediatric dentistry is the “specialty of dentistry that focuses on the oral health and unique needs of young people, including infants, children, and adolescents, and dental patients with exclusive health care needs.

That means that pediatric dentists are very notably like the pediatricians or primary care providers of dentistry. According to AAPD, a pediatric dentist usually has two to three years of specialty training following dental school and treats children only. This express training is needed because children’s teeth are a little more fragile. For that reason the essence of a pediatric dentist cannot be understated. Health experts recommend a bi-annual visit to the dentist. But with children, its best if individuals trips were increased, as a result that the pediatric dentist can monitor the teeth growth.

The older I grow the more earnestly I feel that the few joys of childhood are the best that life has to give. ~Ellen Glasgow

One other major benefit of bringing your child into the dentist starting at around 2 1/2 is to reduce the stress and anxiety that comes with going to the dentist. Children who start visiting their dentist at a young age are more likely to be comfortable having someone checking out their teeth, even later in life. They are significantly less apt to grow up with an instilled fear of going to the dentist.

Pediatric dentists serve a number of purposes, but they are largely there to ensure that everything is going smoothly in the development of your child’s teeth. Additionally, there are a number of preventative remedies that children can get while they are young to help protect their smiles. Visiting a pediatric dentist is the best way to find out which of these treatment is matched for your child, including fluoride cures (which are common these days), sealants and other preventative measures.

Well thanks for your time and effort reviewing this article until next time happy reading.

New insurance mandates take effect in Wisconsin

New insurance mandates take effect in Wisconsin

Young adults can stay on their parents’ insurance longer, and birth control costs must be covered for those looking to avoid having any kids at all, under new laws that take effect Friday in Wisconsin.

Also starting in the new year, state workers and employees at the University of Wisconsin can receive domestic partner health insurance and other benefits. The new mandate that insurance plans cover autism will take effect for most on Friday when group policies are renewed. That law change started in November, but most policy holders won’t start paying for it until now.

The new insurance mandates were approved by the Democratic-controlled Legislature and Gov. Jim Doyle this year. Advocates who pushed for requiring birth control and autism coverage argued it was over due, even though the new mandates are expected to increase costs for all policy holders.

“It’s another year in the march toward increasing health insurance premiums,” said J.P. Wieske, director of state affairs for the Council for Affordable Health Insurance, a national advocacy group whose membership includes insurers, health care providers, actuaries and insurance brokers.

No one seems to know how much the changes will cost. Neither the state Office of the Insurance Commissioner nor the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans, which represents 18 member health plans across the state, has estimates.

“Every indication is that the mandates have increased costs and cost expectations will be higher for 2010,” said Phil Dougherty, senior executive officer of the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans.

The association didn’t oppose any of the changes but instead worked with the governor and state lawmakers on ensuring that the laws do what was intended, Dougherty said.

There was opposition from anti-abortion and Catholic groups to requiring contraceptives to be covered under health insurance policies. Opponents argued that birth control is not medically necessary and insurance companies should not be forced to pay for what is a personal decision.

The Wisconsin Catholic Conference is lobbying lawmakers to provide an exemption for religious organizations.

“The law does not give adequate deference to our religious values and our religious liberties,” said John Huebscher, executive director of the conference. “It would force dioceses and other Catholic organizations that buy insurance to pay for something they object to.”

Three of the state’s five Catholic dioceses purchase private health insurance, which would be required to include contraceptive coverage, he said. However, their policies aren’t up for renewal until later in 2010, so the hope is the Legislature will provide for the exemption before then.

Those three dioceses in Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay insure about 6,000 clergy, staff and other employees, Huebscher said. The other two in La Crosse and Superior are self-insured and not bound by the law, he said.

Planned Parenthood opposes any exemptions because that will limit women’s access to birth control, said the group’s legal and policy analyst Nicole Safar.

“An exemption really defeats the purpose,” she said.

Mandating birth control coverage will dramatically increase its access, Safar said. She cited a 2001 report by the state Office of the Insurance Commissioner that showed about one in five of the most popular insurance plans with prescription drug coverage in Wisconsin did not cover contraceptives.

Wisconsin is joining 24 other states that already require birth control to be covered, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Two additional states require insurance companies to offer contraceptive coverage as an option to employees, but it can be declined.

Federal law requires insurance coverage of contraceptives for federal employees.

Under another insurance change taking effect in Wisconsin, adults up to age 27 could remain on their parents health insurance plans unless they have access to cheaper plans through their employers.

Current law does not address how long a child can remain on their parent’s coverage, leaving it up to individual insurers to decide.

Supporters of increasing the age, including Doyle and the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans, said the law will help young people who either can’t afford health insurance when they first start working or aren’t offered it.

There were no estimates from the state or the insurance industry as to how many people may be affected.

To qualify, the young adults have to be single, not eligible for insurance through their employer, or be able to get on their parents’ plan for less money than through their work.

About 20 states require insurance companies to offer parents coverage of adult children, according to the Council for Affordable Health Insurance.

The domestic partner benefits are being extended to unmarried partners of state employees who live together, share expenses and meet other requirements. It is open to unmarried couples of the opposite sex as well as same-sex couples.

As of Tuesday, 710 people and 57 dependents have signed up for the health insurance, according to the Department of Employee Trust Funds. Another 300 state workers have signed affidavits saying that they qualify for the benefits, indicating that they may sign up later.

Another 179 university employees added a domestic partner to their health insurance as of Dec. 21.

The health insurance benefit is separate from other rights that all same-sex couples became eligible for in the state starting in August. Under that law, couples had to sign a registry in order to receive a host of rights already afforded married couples, including hospital visitation and inheritance.
