Oklahoma Sooners Football Tickets – See The Most Unexpected Bcs Team Live

Oklahoma Sooners Football Tickets – See The Most Unexpected Bcs Team Live

Oklahoma Sooners football tickets are always in demand in and around Norman, but the 2006 season carried expectations as low as any season in recent history. The Sooners suffered one crushing loss before the season began, and suffered two more once the season started. However, the Sooners are once again in a BCS bowl game, and almost no one expected this. It’s a credit to the coaching ability of Bob Stoops, and other factors are also responsible for this surprisingly successful season. We’ll examine the reasons for this great season below, and Sooner nation will once again be out in full force in January.

Obstacles Presented

The Sooners seemed to be destined for a disappointing season even before fall practice got into full swing. QB Rhett Bomar, a returning starter and a player many expected to be among the nation’s elite, was kicked off the team after it was discovered that he accepted money for what amounted to a “no-show” job, as it was alleged. Not only did the Sooners apparently lack depth at the position, but given the timing of this potential disaster, the team was basically put in a very difficult position on offense.

Two other serious problems arose during the season. The first was a highly-controversial loss to Oregon, which occurred when officials basically botched a late-game call that all-but handed the Ducks a victory. The Sooners play a challenging non-conference schedule with regularity, and this loss angered everyone from the coach to the president of the university, and it was quietly acknowledged by many that the Sooners had been robbed in that game.

Finally, the Sooners’ superstar, RB Adrian Peterson, was lost to injury when he broke his collarbone diving into the end zone after another of his patented scintillating runs. Peterson was the most feared offensive player in the Big 12, and perhaps the country, and most teams simply don’t overcome a loss like that and continue to win. Although Oklahoma Sooners football tickets are always hard to find, Peterson by himself was the reason many fans came out to see Oklahoma play.

Perseverance

As a credit to the program, each of these obstacles was met and handled with aplomb. New QB Paul Thompson, who had been expected to play WR this season, grew into his new position with what appears to be excellent coaching. Thompson has thrown for almost 2,500 yards and 20 TD’s, and finished the regular season with a QB rating of 144.56. If that isn’t great coaching, then there’s no such thing.

The Sooners also refused to fold after the Oregon debacle, even though they did suffer a tough loss to Texas two weeks later, and were sitting with a mediocre 3-2 record as of October 8. Many teams would simply fold at that point, but all Oklahoma has done since is run the table, including wins over three ranked teams and a Big 12 title. Again, credit needs to go to the coaching staff for this continued focus.

Finally, the loss of Peterson did not ruin the season. New starter Allen Patrick has racked up 700 yards in only about half a season, and he has kept the running game at Oklahoma churning. Included in his body of work are games where he rushed for 173 yards at Texas A&M and 163 yards at Oklahoma State. The result is teams still have to fear Oklahoma’s running game.

Results

The results speak for themselves. Oklahoma finds itself once again in a BCS bowl game with an 11-2 record, and a date with undefeated Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. This is perhaps Stoops’ best coaching job, and Oklahoma Sooners football tickets are going to be impossible to find for yet another big-time bowl game.

New York Jets Tickets

Based in the New York metropolitan area, The New York Jets are a professional American football team. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They play their home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey at Giants Stadium, named after another NFL team, the New York Giants. The Jets officially refer to the venue as “The Meadowlands,” a name used on all official NFL and team game notes regarding Jets’ home games.

The club’s headquarters are located at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York on Long Island. They are constructing a new training facility and corporate headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey.

The jets began in 1960 as a deed member of the American Football League under the name New York Titans. Renamed after Sonny Werblin bought the team in 1963, it later joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.

The Jets hold the characteristic of being the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they crushed the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.

Franchise history
Originally known as the New York Titans, the team played home games at the Polo Grounds. After a 5 to 9 season in 1962, the team’s future was in doubt. A group headed by MCA head Sonny Werblin and Leon Hess, bought the team from Harry Wismer on March 13, 1964, saved it from ruin. Hess eventually bought out his partners, and kept sole ownership until his death. His estate then sold the team to Johnson & Johnson heir Robert Wood Johnson IV in 2000.

After they took over, the team was renamed the New York Jets to transfer from the Polo Grounds to the New York Mets’ Shea Stadium one year later. Shea Stadium lies so close to LaGuardia Airport that the sound of jets roaring overhead was a common sound heard during games played there. The team’s colors were also changed from blue and gold to kelly green and white, which also were the colors of Hess’ gasoline stations.

Exactly one month after the sale of the team, the Jets hired Weeb Ewbank as head coach. He had won back-to-back NFL championships in 1958 and 1959 with the Baltimore Colts, and was one of the most respected coaches in the game.

2005
The 2005 season started out with the Jets reacquiring WR Laveranues Coles from the Washington Redskins and getting CB Ty Law from the New England Patriots. They also acquired free agent quarterback Jay Fiedler of the Miami Dolphins as an expert backup for the starter, Chad Pennington. During the Draft, the Jets traded their first round selection for Raider’s Tight End Doug Jolley. The Jets used their first selection (2nd round, 15th pick) to select Ohio State Kicker Mike Nugent to replace the departed Doug Brien. The Jets allowed several key role players to leave through free agency or traded them for underachieving players. These players included LaMont Jordan, Kareem McKenzie, Sam Cowart, Jason Ferguson, and to a lesser extent Anthony Becht.

The Jets entered the season with high hopes of competing for the Super Bowl, but in week three against the Jaguars when Chad Pennington reinjured his shoulder. Their backup quarterback Jay Fiedler was injured six plays after Pennington. The injuries caused previous third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger to take the role as the team’s starter and Vinny Testaverde was brought back out of retirement as Bollinger’s backup. After a poor showing by the Jets’ offense in a loss, Testaverde would start the Week 5 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His steady hand led the offense, and Curtis Martin scored two touchdowns, giving the Jets just enough to earn a 14 to 12 victories over the earlier unbeatable Buccaneers.

2006
On January 17, the Jets-Patriots coaching pipeline reared itself yet again, as New England defensive coordinator Eric Mangini was hired by the Jets and became the youngest head coach in all 4 major American sports, turning 35 on January 19. Mangini’s first order of business was to reorganize the coaching staff. Offensive Coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and Defensive Coordinator Donnie Henderson were both released from the Jets staff. Special Teams Coordinator Mike Westhoff was retained. A full staff was announced on February 20. Linebackers coach Bob Sutton was named defensive coordinator and the team signed Jim Herrmann to replace Sutton as the linebackers coach. He was the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan for twenty years before arriving in New York. Eric Mangini then installed a 3-4 defense.

General Manager Terry Bradway announced that he was stepping down as Jets GM on February 7, 2006. Assistant GM Mike Tannenbaum was named the new GM on the same day. Bradway continue to be employed as an investigation consultant.

The Jets finished the regular season with a record of 10-6, having defeated the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, and the Oakland Raiders in their last three games. They earned the 5th AFC Wild Card spot in the playoffs.

Current staff
Owner – Robert Wood Johnson IV
General Manager – Mike Tannenbaum
Head Coach – Eric Mangini
Assistant Head Coach – TBD

Radio and television
As of 2006, the Jets’ flagship radio station was WEPN, ESPN Radio 1050, with Bob Wischussen as the play-by-play announcer. Any preseason games not nationally televised are shown on WCBS, channel 2, and rebroadcast on SportsNet New York. Ian Eagle calls the action on those telecasts.

Notable past play-by-play announcers for the Jets include the legendary Marty Glickman and Howard David, who has called the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals for Westwood One and ESPN Radio

Wanda Sykes Tickets – Wanda Sykes Hits the Road This Summer

Wanda Sykes may not know the fate of her eponymous Fox show yet, but she already has her summer months mapped out. The comedienne, who was ranked among Entertainment Weekly’s “25 Funniest People in America,” will embark on a short summer comedy tour beginning with an appearance in Atlantic City on June 4. Fans with <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/wanda-sykes-tickets/”>Wanda Sykes tickets</a> can also see her in Detroit, Mich. (June 10); Mount Pleasant, Mich. (June 11); Hammond, Ind. (June 12); Pala, Calif. (Aug. 21) and Saratoga, Calif. (Oct. 2). Head to <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/”>StubHub.com</a> for Wanda Sykes tickets.

The season finale of The Wanda Skyes Show, Skyes’ hour-long program on the Fox network, aired on April 24, but the female stand-up comic has yet to find out whether her show will be picked up for a second season. The late-night talk show featured the likes of Chris Rock, Ray Romano, Lisa Kudrow and Erykah Badu in its first season, but Entertainment Weekly reports that NBC’s long-running Saturday Night Live served as some stiff competition for The Wanda Sykes Show. Skyes’ show airs on Saturdays, and since Fox lost its bid for Conan O’Brien (who inked a deal with TBS) she is the only late-night presence on the network, which is definitely in her favor.

Ironically, The New Adventures of Old Christine, the comedy in which Wanda Sykes co-stars, may not be back next season, either! Entertainment Weekly reports that the Emmy Award-winning show starring Julie Louis-Dreyfus (best known for her hilarious role as Elaine on Seinfeld) has yet to know whether CBS will pick it up for the fall 2010 season. The season five finale of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12, and fans can stay tuned to learn the fate of the show.

The fate of Wanda Sykes’ television shows may remain up in the air, but that doesn’t mean her career in comedy is slowing down. Sykes was recently honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 21st annual GLADD Media Awards, held in Beverly Hills on April 17. The award is presented to an openly LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) media professional for making a significant impact in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community. The award was presented to Skyes by high school student Constance McMillen, who was banned from attending her prom. Skyes began her acceptance speech with a heartfelt thanks before resorting to her signature comedic style by joking, “I should just give this award to you, but I’m not going to do it because this means a lot to me.”

A native of Portsmouth, Va., Wanda Skyes graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Science degree, but kicked off her career in comedy not long after getting her diploma, performing at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, D.C. Skyes worked as a performer and writer on the critically acclaimed HBO program the Chris Rock Show for five years, earning three Primetime Emmys as well as the 1999 Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special. Skyes won the American Comedy Award for Outstanding Female Stand Up Comic in 2001 and the accolades kept on coming, such as her recent GLADD Media Award.

Anaheim Ducks Tickets – Selanne Gets 600th Goal, Ducks Add New Talent

Anaheim Ducks Tickets – Selanne Gets 600th Goal, Ducks Add New Talent

The Anaheim Ducks are fighting toward the end of the regular season, hoping to seal a spot in the playoffs. Amidst the drive, they were able to take a minute to celebrate following the Ducks’ 5-2 defeat of the Colorado Avalanche on March 21. The win itself was a reason to bask in the glory of victory, but one player’s accomplishments overshadowed the glory of one win.

The player is right winger Teemu Selanne, who notched his 600th goal during the victory. In the game, he also tallied an assist. Other goals in the game came from Jason Blake, Matt Beleskey, Troy Bodie and Ryan Getzlaf. Selanne’s goal came early in the second period, with assists by Scott Niedermayer and Corey Perry.

The goal makes him only the 18th player in NHL history to reach the landmark and it is especially sweet for Selanne, as he is expected to retire following the 2009-10 season.  Other players to reach the 600 mark include legends like Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull and Mark Messier. The Ducks’ website had a breakdown of his impressive journey toward the 600 mark. Out of those 600 goals, 373 were scored wearing an Anaheim Ducks’ uniform. The rest were scored with the San Jose Sharks (64), Colorado Avalanche (16) and now-defunct Winnipeg Jets (147). He faced 132 different goalies for those goals, with 114 multi-goal games. Selanne also showed his resilience on the road by scoring 279 of his career goals at away games.

In March, the Ducks also went out to ensure their star power continues by adding a slew of new names. Below is a list of the new additions:

Nick Bonino: Bonino made a splash with his team at Boston University, where he just finished his junior season. He was part of the BU team that won the NCAA Championship in the 2008-09 season. The 21-year-old signed a two-year entry-level contract. San Jose originally picked him up in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, but the Ducks traded for Bonino and goalie Timo Pielmeier and handed over left wing Travis Moen and defender Kent Huskins.

Jake Newton: The Ducks snatched up defenseman Jake Newton, who was a free agent. The 21-year-old played his freshman season at Northeastern University this season, and the Ducks signed up to an entry-level contract that lasts three years.  Prior to his time with Northeastern, he also played for the U.S. Hockey League’s Lincoln Stars.

Rob Bordson: Left winger Rob Bordson will forgo his final season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth to play for the Ducks. Also a 21-year-old, Bordson signed a two-year deal with the Ducks that is rumored to be worth around 0,000.

The Ducks also recalled left wing Kyle Calder from the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies. The 31-year-old has already played 14 games with the Ducks this season. Throughout his long career, he has also played with NHL teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. Wanda Sykes Tickets – Comedy’s Late Night Turned Live

Wanda Sykes Tickets – Comedy’s Late Night Turned Live

It looks like Wanda Sykes’ Saturday nights are going to be much more open this year following the cancelation of her Fox late night talk show “The Wanda Sykes Show.” Though teens, who made up the majority of her audience, are going to be disappointed, it won’t be long before this loud-mouthed comedian returns to the stage. Most likely she’ll debut a new live album that pokes fun at her former network, an act that’s proven successful once before; It’s the second time Fox has shoved her off the air. When her sitcom Wanda at Large was moved to the “Friday night death slot” during its second season, Sykes made it clear she wasn’t a fan of Fox when her debut album Sick & Tired poked fun at the network, and chances are that tactic will work again.

Even without her talk show the actress and comedian doesn’t need much help keeping up with mainstream audiences, as she was recently honored with a GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Award  in April. The openly-lesbian actress was given the Stephen F. Kolzak Award during the April 17 ceremony at Los Angeles’ Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. The awards “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.” <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/wanda-sykes-tickets/”>Wanda Sykes tickets</a> keep audiences laughing as http://www.stubhub.com offers them now.

Hailed as “one of the funniest stand up comics” by both her peers and critics, Sykes has seen a slew of success in the past decade since she found mainstream success. Working her comedic ways all over Comedy Central for years, it wasn’t until Chris Rock found the Virginia native in 1997 that Sykes started to work full time in comedy. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree at Hampton University, Sykes tickled the fancy of patrons at the Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, D.C. For five years she was a writer and performer on HBO’s “The Chris Rock Show,” a position that earned her several Primetime Emmy nods and one win in 1999 for “Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special.”

Eventually she became a correspondent for HBO’s Inside the NFL, but it was film roles in comedies like Pootie Tang and Down to Earth that helped her gain a more commercial audience. She attracted sports audiences with her NFL connections, and comedy fans with her film ones – adding up to a successful debut special Tongue United on Comedy Central. The hour-long premiere sparked her first Fox connection, a show which enabled Sykes to develop her acting, writing and producing. That debut year (2003) Sykes also appeared on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and voiced the character Gladys Murphy for Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers.

Sykes moved to larger acting roles with parts in the films Mother in Law, My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Evan Almighty as well as television’s The New Adventures of Old Christine. Her comedy continued to be her strong suit with her second HBO standup special “I’ma Be Me” premiering last year while she was named one of Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Funniest People in America.

A Chorus Line Tickets – First Comes A Chorus Line, Then Comes Baby?

Few people would think that starring in A Chorus Line could lead to a major life change, but that is exactly what happened for celebrity Mario Lopez. Lopez is known as the host of the show America’s Best Dance Crew as well as A.C. Slater from Saved by the Bell. Back in 2008, Lopez turned his attention toward Broadway and took on the road of Zach in the revival of A Chorus Line. He met Broadway dancer Courtney Mazza and the pair began dating. Fast forward to March 2010 and the couple have announced that they are expecting a baby! His former A Chorus Line co-stars will inevitably send their congratulations, but Lopez has since moved on to different projects.

That doesn’t mean that A Chorus Line is over, though, and the show has kicked off a popular touring production of the revival that swept Broadway. This spring, the tour will be hitting spots like East Lansing, Mich.; Kansas City, Mo.; Indianapolis, Ind. and Dayton, Ohio. From first listen, it is clear that audiences aren’t offered fluff when being entertained by the energetic Wanda Sykes.  Her no-nonsense brand of comedy has earned her quite the following among fans and made her a multi-faceted threat. It all starts with her standup act, and she continues to make time in her busy schedule to make it up on stage to entertain fans. Her dates are always popular, so her fans will want to act fast to reserve <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/wanda-sykes-tickets/”>Wanda Sykes tickets</a> at <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/”>StubHub.com</a>.

Sykes can add role model to her long list of titles thanks to the GLADD’s Stephen. F. Kolzak Award. The award is given to a media professional who is openly LGBT and has made an impact promoting LGBT rights. The Bay Area Reporter spoke with Sykes about the award, and she wasn’t kidding about being flattered. She said, “I was really touched. At first I was like, man, it’s so much so soon. Do I really deserve this award? I understood what they were saying. Being one of the few African-American performers who is open and out, I know I reach a lot of people.” Obviously, plenty of people in the entertainment world are under the impression she deserves this accolade and more.

Another organization who thought she deserved to be recognized was the NCAAP. Sykes was nominated for two awards at the 41st NAACP Image Awards, which took place Feb. 26, 2010. Her television show, The Wanda Sykes Show, was nominated for Outstand Talk Series. BET’s The Mo’Nique Show ended up taking home the award. Her HBO special Wanda Sykes: I’ma Be Me was also nominated for Outstanding Variety (Series or Special). The Michael Jackson Memorial ended up taking home that prize, however. Her talk show is rumored not to be returning next season, but that will just give the star even more time for standup and other projects.

Standup will always be a part of Sykes career, at least according to an interview with HollywoodChicago.com. She talked about her views on standup comedy and said, “It’s where I started. It all begins with stand-up for me. I still enjoy it. If I go through a phase without it for a while, focusing on just film or television, I start to feel funny. It’s what I know, it’s my confirmation [laughs].” Even with those comments, Sykes has had a pretty good run in both television and film. Her television appearances include multiple comedy specials and a starring role in The New Adventures of Old Christine with Seinfeld’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She has also had roles in films like Evan Almighty and Monster-In-Law.

Sykes wasn’t always hell-bent on a comedy career. In fact, she has a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University. Eventually, she decided to try standup and was hooked. She worked her way up and became a writer for HBO’s Chris Rock Show. Since then, she has won multiple awards, from an American Comedy Awards to Emmys. All the while, she hasn’t lost the spark that wooed fans at her first standup show in Washington, D.C. so many years ago.

It is good for the soul to occasionally release all of your emotions and let yourself openly enjoy the absurdity and the humorous potential in the world around you. This is why comedies have existed for centuries if not millennia. Thing back to some of Shakespeare’s most famous works – A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice – so many of these great plays were comedies!

Bass Concert Hall Austin Event Tickets – Austin Is The Entertainment Capital Of The Lone Star State!

Bass Concert Hall Austin Event Tickets – Austin Is The Entertainment Capital Of The Lone Star State!

Austin may be the state capital of Texas, but don’t expect to encounter a stuffy city when you come to visit. After all, the city’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird!” Austin is known for being Texas’ creative hub, and the city is bursting with local musicians, artists, chefs and entrepreneurs. The landscape of Austin even deviates from the typically flat land found in Texas, as Austin is the gateway to Texas Hill Country. Austin earns its title as the Live Music Capital of the World by staging the popular Austin City Limits Music Festival each year and boasting over 200 music venues.

Go Longhorns! The University of Texas at Austin is located just north of downtown Austin, and the University’s Texas Performing Arts Center boasts multiple venues in one! Bass Concert Hall is the flagship theatre of Texas Performing Arts and is the largest in Austin, with seating for a whopping 2,900 patrons. The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Concert Hall was completed in 1981 and has hosted Broadway performances as well as nationally touring musicians and bands and comedians.

Resident E! Entertainment Television funny lady Chelsea Handler will be stopping by Bass Concert Hall for a pair of performances on April 16. The talk show host (of her very own Chelsea Lately on E!), standup comedian and author will be visiting Austin while on tour in support of her third book, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.

Handler’s previous two books, My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands (2005) and 2008′s Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, were smash successes and her third is poised to follow in their footsteps. Why settle for watching Handler on Chelsea Lately when you can get Bass Concert Hall Austin event tickets from StubHub.com to see her live!

If your sides aren’t still hurting from laughing with Chelsea Handler, head to Dell Hall at Austin’s Long Center for the Performing Arts to see author David Sedaris on April 27. Known for his self-deprecating humor and dry wit, Sedaris has released a stream of New York Times Best Sellers, like Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000), Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004) and When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008). Sedaris has been nominated for three Grammys for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. His most recent live effort is David Sedaris: Live For Your Listening Pleasure (2009), but you can’t miss your chance to see this Greek-American humorist when he stops in Austin!

Comedy is great and all, but you can’t come to Austin without seeing some live music, and Stubb’s is one of Austin’s most legendary live music venues. Texan C.B. Stubbenfield opened Stubb’s Bar-B-Que once he returned home to Texas after the Korean War, and he passed away in 1995, at which point the Austin venue opened in his honor.  Coheed and Cambria will join the long list of artists that have performed at Stubb’s when the progressive rock outfit takes the stage at the Austin venue on April 28. Coheed and Cambria’s latest album, Year of the Black Rainbow, arrives on April 13, so expect to hear a batch of new songs live!
